Robbie Keane to Liverpool

Ayrshire Blue

The Custard Splat
Tottenham Hotspur forward Robbie Keane is set to complete an £18m transfer to Liverpool within the next 48 hours. (Daily Telegraph, 1555)

If Liverpool want to challenge they have to sign World Class players though I do like Keane I think Liverpool need to aim higher! 18m is way too much I would say.

Transfer fees dont make any sense at the moment -

Nasri - 13m max (world class young player)
Crouch - 11m (International forward with a world class international goalscoring record)
Defoe - 8m (still reasonably young and proven goalscorer)

KEANE 18M (must be late twenties, average international record)

And it leaves the possibilty of Benitez paying £36 million for two players who are imo average prem players

Got to agree with you there. I think Liverpool are a few players away from title contenders. Unfortunately - even though I am a fan of Keane I don't think he cuts the mustard for a title contending team.

Agree with that, they were put off by the £20million price tag on David Villa, surely they would rather pay £2million more on Villa rather than go for Keane. I do like Robbie Keane but not worth £18million.

Torres and Villa would be brilliant to watch.

Keane has 80 Prem goals in 158 starts for Spurs, there aren't many strikers out there with a better record, especially as he's not playing for one of the big 4. he's scored consistently in the Premiership for several seasons, makes goals as well, and has solid international experience as well as having played abroad.

To be fair for a player who has scored as many as he has for Spurs, especially considering before there last few decent seasons were nothing special, even last season they came quite far down the table, he is a class player. Perhaps Liverpool should have gone in for him last season. He isn't old however he won't have too many more seasons at his peak. Taking all is into account I would say he would be worth 12-14 million.

I like Keano a lot - but that price tag is well OTT IMO. But Liverpool do enjoy spending silly money, so let them off.

Happy Robbie will get some champions league footie, and will also be very interesting to see how he links up with Torres this season.

Keane is a proven Premier League goalscorer. He got 24 last year, 25 the season before, he's just turned 28 so he's in his peak and would, IMO, be a very good signing for any of the 'Big Four'.

Agreed. He is a clever foorballer and has lots of pace, on paper Torres and Keane up front looks ****hot!

Personally I'd rather a Drogba or a Adebayor with Torres, but that's my own opinion. I've never really rated Keane if I'm honest.

Over priced but if that is what Tottenham were willing to sell their captain for then theres not much that they can do. Keanes a top quality striker, one of the most under rated in the premiership in my opinion. Always up in the 20s playing for a mid table team with ****e midfielders.
