RIP Sir Bobby Robson

Gutted - How could you not like Bobby Robson? Great guy and a real football man. Shame - RIP.

Can only echo what has been said. Legend is an overused word when used in connection with football, but in the case of Sir Bobby Robson the word applies fully.

Truly one of natures gentlemen and liked and admired by all inside and outside of football.

RIP Sir Bob.

R.I.P A True Football Legend

R.I.P Sir Bobby Robson, football has lost a tru legend today.

Sorry if this has already be done, but i couldnt find it and thought it certainly deserved a place on the main chat.

Can only go along with everything that's already been said, top, top bloke - an absolute gent, and a great manager both for club and country to boot. RIP Sir Bobby.

Terrible news although not unexpected.. RIP a true gentleman and a man that had Football "how it should be" running through his veins...Sad day for the Game we love.

I loved his great enthusiasm for the game which he retained despite some dreadful treatment from the red-tops when England manager. The memory of him doing a little jig after David Platt's wonder goal against Belgium spoke volumes for his love of the game and his country. He was very adaptable too - can't think of any other English manager/coach (except maybe Terry Venables) who has plied his trade at high levels in other countries. A brave man as well as kind - not only in fighting the big 'c' but also in taking on dressing room bullies at Ipswich in the early days with a few fisticuffs in the dressing room apparently. We have lost a great ambassador for football and humanity.

RIP Bobby

He was such a happy chappy and always displayed such enthusiasum for the game.

For me personally Italia 90 was when I started to get into football, Bobby's England really played with such style and determination that tournament, he was so unlucky to miss out on the final.

Always kept an eye out for Bobby's career after that and it was a shame that his last club or Freddy Shepherd tossed him on the scraphead before he was done.

I doubt there will ever be a figure in world football ever again that will be held with such respect and likeableness.

I am glad I was around when he was managing, to see that you can be a nice guy and a winner both on and off the pitch, many managers could learn from him in todays game

RIP Sir Bobby

Sad to hear of his death as he was a great manager who will be remembered always for being the wonderful football man he was. Have to say that I met him on two occasions - once at a game when I asked him for his autograph and he turned his back on me to speak to a reporter from the Daily Mirror and another time when he was doing a book signing and he was not very friendly at all. That does not detract from the fact he will be very much missed and it is unlikely anybody will ever manage in the any kind of football at the age of 72 ever again.

Rest in peace Sir Bobby.

When people with no talent, skill or real achievement get blanket media coverage when they die (Jade and Diana, I mean you) then by rights Bobby Robson's passing should bring the country to a halt.

A great Englishman yes, but really a Football Man.

RIP Bobby

Simply one of the greatest characters who graced the game we love & he loved more than us all put together.

What other person could engender the reaction on Barca's website, there are at least 5 tribute messages on there, especially given that he only managed them for a year

FC Barcelona website

R. I. P. indeed.

Adaptability - mentioned the word earlier. In the context of the England job, the great man did two somersaults. In the World Cup of '86, he found his best midfield through adversity, ie when Bryan R was 'shouldered' out and Wilkins was suspended (after the Morrocco group game), via Hoddle & Reid in the middle. In one of the best WC's ever (in 1990), he listened to the players and adopted a sweeper system, where Mark Wright finally laid the ghost of Roy McDonough to rest and played football again. The achievement of that England side, in the context of zilch European football since the ban of '85, was a triumph of spirit over adversity (like Robson's life) and it was a great journey to behold until the nemesis of penalties/Germans did for us once more. I mourn the man and his spirit for the game deeply - I do not think we will see his like again. Feel free to weep with me without embarrassment...
