RIP Sir Bobby Robson

RIP
A footballing legend
Glad he got to see the Legends game before he died, he got a fantastic reception at St James Park

A real, real legend. A top man and a huge loss.

Napster is correct, he did almost manage us. Can't remember why he didn't now, it's in his autobiography.

****.

Now see that affects me far more than Jackson dying. You could say he's the reason I started following football. It was his England side in Italia '90 that did so well and drew my 11 year old attention to the beautiful game. An intelligent, humble man who loved the game, a true englishman and a legend.

RIP Sir Bobby.

RIP Bobby Robson

Whilst not obviously linked to Southend United in any way, there is one which many won't know about unless they've read his 2005 autobiography 'Farewell but not Forgotten'.

As he was signing my copy of the book at Waterstones a few years ago, he asked me who I support. When I told him he said "Southend gave me my first managerial offer". What's more (on a personal note) he was offered it in the clubhouse of the hockey club I play for, where Essex CCC were playing that week (Trevor bailey was our Chairman at the time, and down at Brentwood with Essex CCC that week).

So there. If we'd been prepared to offer him more than he was paid as an untried newbie at Fulham 15 years before, we could have had Bobby Robson as player/manager in the late 60's. In light of our present troubles, let's not lose the perspective here - we've always been dogged by financial "if only's"...

Onto Bobby though, the game has lost a true gentleman and pragmatist. Many players and managers in the modern game have been moulded by BR, and he is irreplaceable. RIP Sir Bobby.

Truly gutted - best England Manager in my lifetime and ALWAYS enthusiastic with a smile on his face. Thank you very much for great memories of an England manager, club manager, independent pundit and above all a genuinely great human being.

Nicest man in football , the word Legend is spouted about to easily IMO , but its safe to say that Bobby was indeed a true legend .

like a post above , **** Michael Jackson he was a vile waste of space , bobby on the other hand deserves to be on the front page of the tabloids for 10 days solid !!

It is sad when a man of such stature passes away.

Such a true gentleman of the game.

I only hope the newspapers spend as much time on Bobbys passing, as they have on MJ's, afterall, Bobby carried himself with a lot more respect and dignaty.

Hopefully C4 will dig out a documentary about the great man in his prime, it was his last season managing Ipswich and followed him (& the team) on one of their greatest ever seasons (although wasn't as successful as the UEFA Cup winning year), prior to him taking the England job.

As a kid I remember seeing pictures of him on the training ground with a sky blue adidas trackie top with RR emblazoned on it and thinking how cool...;)
