Right-to-die man Tony Nicklinson dead

Poor, poor man, the sight of him crying when given the news last week was absolutely awful. At least he is at peace now. I hope there's no blame apportioned anywhere as a result of this. I prefer to think that the stress of it all was too much for his body to cope with and that a death cert can be signed without any undue fuss.

Sensitive to the last as usual Scott

What are you talking about? just because I did not out pour with ohhh what a tragedy ohh its the end of the world!!!

Jam man has asked if you think its a massive coincidence and I think that's beyond coincidence

So stop worrying about what I am posting and commenting at every ****ing point join in debate yourself.

was debating maddy quite a lot on a recent holiday. who really does leave their 4 year old at home? why take the 4 year old and not the others.

I don't expect the Government will be ashamed. They seem to be content with the decision they made. why should they be ashamed?

Indeed, despite what TB says I think its unlikey it was the McCanns, and to be fair nothing wrong with a little morgue humour, but lets keep on topic.

Still havent heard how he died, really hope that if it was aided there arent any charges.

Its a debate thats been had before about whether it should have been allowed or not, but how awful it had to come to this.

Hopefully it is the end of the matter for his family.

From BBC Site:

His family said he died at home at 10:00 BST after contracting pneumonia.

Mr Nicklinson's family said his health had deteriorated rapidly in the days prior to his death.

not a view shared by all it seems - so why should they be ashamed? Because you said so? Or because you believe the vast majority agree with you?

As it happens I agree with you but put bluntly it's irrelevant if you want to die just commit suicide even if it is by not eating or drinking? Why exactly did he want assistance - could he not guarantee he would kill himself? Sorry not followed the whole story.

Which begs the question if this had been your fatther would you have helped him die and risk the consequences? If it was one of my boys I think I would.

Wiltshire Police said the force was not investigating Mr Nicklinson's death.

A spokesman said: "His death certificate has been signed by a doctor, so it is not a matter for Wiltshire Police or the coroner."

He was locked in, he cant do anything for himself, hence he wanted to die. Starving himself is hardly a humane way to go...

Commiting suicide always has effects on other people, sometimes devestating ones. A humane, quick and easy painless way such as Dignitas should be the way forward in a modern, civilised country.

if it's proven that the person doesn't want to live and is in pain then absolutely they should be allowed to die peacefully.
why have the courts rejected the pleas? on what grounds?

Because everybody should have the right to die, how and when they choose to as long as they are of sound mind.

The point is Paul that I doubt any government will bring in such a law at this time. I think we will have to wait 10 years or so before we see this.

Apparently he has died of pneumonia bought on by his decision to stop taking food & water.

Edit : Just seen the earlier posts regarding cause of death.
