Bit harsh that. It was after extra time and against a Barnsley side that are flying at the moment.
And their Fans really don't rate him either.

Not sure about Denying a Goalscoring opportunity
Correct, Ricketts dismissal would come under the category of "foul and abusive actions" as opposed to foul and abusive language, both carry a 2-match suspension in any case.

Denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity by a foul challenge or a deliberate handball carries a one-match suspension as we all know.

Statski whether or not a player is punished for not leaving the field of play in a reasonable amount of time after dismissal is very much down to the Football Association to consider and they only do that if it is included in the referee's report, very rarely does any further sanctions come from this though anyway particularly if the players suspension is upheld.
Just for the record "foul and abusive" doesn't come into it any more. It's now offensive, insulting or abusive language/gestures ..... or OFFINABUS for short.

Also correct

although the suspension system hasn't changed. Ricketts had absolutely no chance of having his dismissal rescinded and for me it was a pointless appeal.

Cheers Mick, my refereeing ticket lapsed few years ago so the minor recent changes have passed my by.

I would suggest that in most cases the FA will always back their match officials largely because they are duty bound to. On occasions officials have considered video evidence and rescinded cards accordingly.
