SUFC: The Future RH Redevelopment

That was covered at the CEO forum as far as Tom could go at the time. There is intent to upgrade North & West where they can to add facilities but the initial focus for major development has to be the East to add the year round revenue.

Someone raised the idea of moving the pitch East when rebuilding to allow more development of the West but as was pointed out that wouldn't work as the South would then be out of line. I asked about the South & Tom's answer was basically that it is what it is & we are pretty stuck with it. I think most sensible people on here realise that.

I don't want to go over old ground if this has already been mooted. But has anyone thought of rotating the pitch 180 degrees? :Whistling:

:Winking::Winking::Winking:

Potentially rotating the pitch 180 could turn west stand into a new north bank then get rid of lower level seating in the south and stretch that out to the new touchline with safe standing!

Where would we play our home matches if the pitch was being rotated as any such move would need major work to all four stands surely?

We’ve had a lot of talk of rotating the pitch over the years, yet nobody has suggested a revolving pitch/stadium. Like one of those fancy restaurants set in tall tower buildings.

That would really set us apart from the hoi polloi of bowl stadiums.

Given we've used the same architects as Brentford I would imagine a similar offering of hospitality and non-match day offerings may be in mind. You only have to look at their events page to get an idea of 365 days a year that a modern stadium can offer.

Anything to stop visiting teams doing that thing where they switch ends at the beginning of the match.

Definitely a poke in the eye when we then rotate the stadium.

If COSU really cared etc…

What length of time and what level of investment will be required to get to sustainability in a revamped RH? I suspect millions will evaporate even before the east stand is started and that's when the serious numbers start being demanded. Are the majority on here sure, even long-long-long term, the investors will see a worthwhile return, if any, or that COSU are a benevolent band of philanthropists?
Surely, any feasibility study is going to say, 'you want it, you build it but, don't expect to see that money back in your lifetime'?
As much as RM let us down, I feel he was right and a new stadium with greater non-matchday revenue, is the true way forward.
Do we know if the whole consortium is convinced RH can, one day, be the answer or do they recognise its restrictive area, positioning and location is the problem denying a brighter future?
I hope I'm wrong, because RH is in my bloodstream, but I can still see it being a housing estate.

I think that kind of two tier design with boxes in the middle was popular in the 90’s, I think that’s Wycombe? Peterborough and Gills had theirs around the same time, I think Mansfield too? I think nowadays for the capacity we’re
Looking at it’s more likely to be a big single tier with boxes along the back. It seems only the huge stadiums go multi-tiered nowadays. Even mid-size stadiums like Leicester and Southampton are (from memory) all single tiered? I would imagine something along the lines of Brentford’s new ground, bit by bit, is what we’re aiming for. But I could be completely wrong of course!

Remember FF is supposedly going to contribute around £12m towards construction costs. Depends how much belief you put into that being received - would imagine that could massively impact the viability numbers.

However I think COSU are on record that they'll do the development regardless of the likelihood of the FF money being received. So guess there's a number they're willing to invest to get the club 'sustainable'.

Could get very interesting if the feasibility study raises question marks on the project.
