Breaking News Retained/Released list - Wood and Waldron released

sometimes you’ve got to be brutal and harsh to be successful
Indeed Jack. I stated as much in my hypothesis. Would be awful getting rid of some of those heroes that came 10mins from promotion, but they cant do it on a freezing night over at Woking or force a goal on a Tues night at Aldershot. Something has to give to go out and actually win the league. If cost cutting is needed, fine, lets not go mad and scale back and lower our expectations. But if Justin says AVE IT, and thats what we are talking about here, then consistant performers only need apply.
Will be harder for Kev to keep a tight happy camp, but thats why he is enjoying the manager position.
Have no fear, seize the opportunity that has been presented.

Wood, Waldron, Goodliffe and Golding are most definitely leaving the squad, Bonne possibly following as well. That leaves 5 spaces which , if we replace with genuine 1st team players, gives us a much better squad, and that’s without potentially increasing squad size. To me that’s plenty of changes to the 1st team this year without going mad, the season after will most likely see a number of further changes as contracts expire. 26/27 season for me is the more likely for a champions push

If cancelling contracts weren’t an issue etc I Would genuinely get rid of Hayes, bridge , Miley, Husin, wood , Waldron, Bonne , hopper , walker , as well as goodliffe going back to col u as well. Still think Crowther could be a good CB in a 2 but not a 3 , but can see him leaving as well
I'm surprised we haven't released our list yet and seem to remember in previous years that we never formally announced things and news just filtered out.

If we could move on anyone I'd be trying with the following - but certainly not because all are bad players. Hayes, GSM, Goodliffe, Bridge, Morton, Miley, Wood, Walker, Bonne, Waldron.

My released list would be

Gubbins
Crowther
Wood
Waldron

I'd keep the rest but I'd let certain players know that if they don't buck there ideas up they're gone.

Bridge
Miley
Husin
Walker

Miley and Husin haven't been same since injuries

I'd like to give the people like Bonne and Hopper a chance for a full pre season and see if that helps!

We can't release Gubbins & Crowther as they are still under contract.

Can’t comment on Wind as I’ve only seen 10 mins of him but jeez I’ve seen the lad spend at least 6 hours on the touchline stretching and doing all he can to catch the gaffers eye to put him on

Felt for him the last few games as not even so much as a sniff , if that doesn’t mean your first on the released list I don’t know what is

We’ve only got a few guys to decide on and 2 of them I’m sure have been offered deals and talks are ongoing. Wood and Waldron will def be off. The only one who is probably 50/50 is Bonne but I’m sure the club would like to keep him if the price is right.

Given how well we did by the end of the season, I’d hope that some of our contracted fringe players could get a chance of a reasonable move.

Personally id be looking to move on Gubbins, Crowther, walker, wood, Waldron and Bonne.

I know there are mixed feelings on Bonne. He has influenced when coming on as a sub, but wasn’t doing much when starting. When presented with a chance it’s like he has the football equivalent of dartitis - he is just panicking and not even nearly scoring. If we are running around a top 7 budget and want to compete for top spot, then we can’t take the risk that he doesn’t get over this.

I’m very much Bonne in, but can see both sides of the argument.

Maybe offer a 6 month deal with incentives / targets - if he meets / exceeds he gets another 6 months, year , whatever.

That way it’s up to him.

I think it’s obvious that Kev likes him from the way he (Kev) praises him in interviews

I don't get why people are so down on Joe Gubbins. He's 24 in August and still relatively young. Stood up and took a penalty in the penalty shoot out to get us to Wembley and has always come on and done what he's been asked to do, often in difficult circumstances. Genuinely left footed - quite a novelty. He'd not be top of my list to "move on" - even if we could!

Agreed, he has a decent pass/cross on him and can be a useful squad player I think. I wasn’t sure about him at first but there’d be others I’d be showing the door ahead of Gubbins.

I think Kev will have to let Bonne go if he wants to improve the team as a whole.

We need a big target man to share the load with Hopper and I believe Kev is also after a number 10 type striker to hopefully provide some more variety to our attack.

With Hopper, Walker and Kendall already contracted for next season that would be the five strikers I believe we would need.
With Bonne more than likely being after the same kind of money as this season (one of the higher earners), we need to cut our cloth accordingly.

Wind is a weird one because he's clearly good enough to play in the first XI but he's competing against the first name on the sheet. If GSM got injured (or left) then we'd be fine, but he's been really durable this season and his goal threat has meant he's been impossible to drop.

I'd like Wind to stay and I'd like to see him get more opportunities than he has.

I do wonder if the club would be happy to cash in on GSM if the price is right and let him go to Barnet or somewhere in the football league, and then Wind is ready to go and it helps to fund some quality signings in positions where we need to strengthen.
