The only reputation i want to see SUFC get rid of is the one as chokers in the big games,Morecambe last week , 3 losses in the JPT final, loss over 2 legs to Burton in last years playoffs mmmmmmmmm be nice to rid ourselves of the choker tag.:'(

So was beating Orient over 2 legs, Bury away, Exeter away and Luton (with 10 men) not big games then?

Id even argue the JPT area finals (semi's) were far more important to me personally. Its all about getting to Wembley in the JPT beating your local rivals. They were bigger and on paper tougher games too.

But it wasn't even Southend fans that beat up that Cambridge bloke? It was people from southend but not fans, as far as I know anyway. As for smoke bombs, my view has nothing to do with it, they are a common sight this end of the season, if you haven't seen them all throughout the football league in the past few weeks you must have your head in the sand! As someone just mentioned some people are going soft IMO.

That's the point I'm making, whether you think people are going soft or not, or whether it is right or wrong - those things I mentioned are actually happening. People aren't necessarily going soft, but the majority are being punished for the actions of a few so no wonder they're not happy.

As for the smokey, I don't care if they've been happening at every ground across the country. The fact is we were investigated after Portsmouth so it should have been obvious we were being watched, whether that is fair or not. The things are illegal so we can have no complaints.

Personally I have been to the Belgrade derby and had seats fly past my head and flares go off right in front of me and I thought the atmosphere was great. But then, there were never likely to be sanctions on those fans because Serbia is rightly or wrongly a lot less harsh on things like that. This country is not Serbia. Soft or not, that's the way it is. Deal with it.

Plastic glasses in Spread and Railway before matches
The insistence that both these pubs are now home fans only, depriving the publicans of crucial matchday revenue.
/QUOTE]

Most Pubs near Football Grounds serve Beer & Wine in Plastic Glasses on Match days. Lloyds Bar in the Fulham Broadway complex for starters, and that's a home fans only Pub.
Regarding 'home fans only' Pubs re match day revenue, how many times is The Spread half empty before a game?.

Maybe they do but the Spread/Railway serve in plastic glasses now as a direct result of the Cambridge game. The Spread had only just gone back to glass as well. So people's actions have affected things.

Point taken about away fans in the Spread, I was more thinking about the Railway really when the odd few away fans did come in before.

In the 90s a colleague of mine one went to our Milan office, and was taken to the Milan derby. He said it was madness. There was one end of the ground where no-one paid any attention to the game and spent the whole time fighting. He even said he saw a motor scooter dropped from one tier onto the heads of the fans below.

I guess anyone that thinks that's not good is also going soft.

The sad thing is Southend fans will be targeted by thugs whether innocent or otherwise.

Those throwing missiles, kicking boards or whatever should be identified and banned forever,no need in what should be family entertainment.

That's just another example of the minority spoiling it for others.
As soon as that story 'broke' , I was never allowed to bring mine inside the ground again , even though I always just parked it up next to my seat and never caused anybody a moments fuss.

Really? Hardly in the same league, is it? A few moments frustration taken out on inanimate objects as opposed to doing something that is illegal in grounds.

Mores the pity, beer and smokes would be a damn sight cheaper, as well as the match day ticket.

Unfortunately whether you think "nothing out of the ordinary has happened" I can come up with a list of consequences which have affected innocent Southend fans thanks to a few idiots acting up (which they inevitably pass off as just 'having a laugh') and harming our reputation.

A substantial five-figure fine for the second smoke bomb which could be the difference between signing a top player in the summer and not
Increased police presence at home games, which has to be paid for by the club.
Increased police presence at away games, preventing some fans from frequenting their pubs of choice
Away fans being searched before going through turnstiles at Stevenage (as a result of Portsmouth smoke bomb)
Plastic glasses in Spread and Railway before matches
The insistence that both these pubs are now home fans only, depriving the publicans of crucial matchday revenue.

There are probably more but I can't think of any. Whether you think there's been an overreaction or not, this is what's been happening as a result.

Both pubs should have been on plastics anyway they flouted the licensing conditions from the old bill and thats the same with home and away fans

Increased police presence is not happening unless its a police category game.

only the fine is the problem to the club.

Lastly reputation? give over our club would have to be doing something major to get noticed

they serve in plastics because both pubs started ignoring the licensing terms set out years ago!

With the exception of that poor bloke from Cambridge what's gone on this season and indeed for many recently is nothing compared to the 70's & 80's. Can't believe this "Reputation" nonsense and at Morecambe it was no worse than insolent children not getting their own way. Footballs never been safer but some people are going soft.

Bang on the money there, all this reputation crap! nothing has changed as a club we are a cuddly toy compared to others

Obviously we like all clubs have a few unsavoury elements who attach themselves to our club but overall I think we are a friendly club with very decent fans. I remember the police and clubs being very complementary of our fans at both Doncaster and Southampton at end of season games where we took big followings
