Remembering our heroes.

I believe that traditionally the silence is usually broken with the playing of the Last Post not started by it.
It certainly works better that way from a "theatrical" point of view.
Although, having just attended the remembrance service in South Benfleet, the silence started with the Last Post and was broken with Reveille, which worked equally as well.

One of my mates who has a season ticket in my row is a good cornet player and said he'd play it live next year.

"Seems" like a simple piece but as I've never played the bugle I'm guessing it isn't. You can definitely tell a good player from an average one, even based on those who have been down to Roots Hall. The guy before the Chelsea Arsenal match was different class!

Yep, and the tributes in the ground were excellent but here, too, they went into applause after the Last Post.

It’s not that it’s difficult per se, it’s the pressure of playing completely on your own in front of a big crowd - there’s nowhere to hide!

I think previously Martin Hurrell has played it at Roots Hall - he’s pretty decent as he’s sub-principal trumpet with the BBC Symphony Orchestra!

@Richard Hearn No I'm sorry you are wrong. The correct order starts with The Last Post. And then Two Minutes Silence. The silence is broken by the playing of Reveille / "The Rouse".

Whatever happened yesterday, when everyone realised what was going on it was an impeccable moment of respect.

It's not a competition as to what year is better, it's about coming together as a club and showing that we unite together and show respect in the best way possible.

Our fans and Yeovil fans can be proud of how we all did that yesterday.

We have been fortunate to witness some breathaking rememberance events at Roots Hall. For me, the most memorable moment was when we had 12 flag bearers all from local BL and Naval Associations, a bugle player and an army vet read For the Fallen. I remember it well because it was an amazing experience but also because the club didn't anticipate 80 and 90 year olds to walk around the pitch in longer than 5 minutes! The game kicked off later because of how long it took but the feeling that day, the applause, the respect shown was something that I will never forget. I do remember being quite emotional as it goes because of how real it all was. It really hit home the importance of it all.

This year, the club have utilised the screen for rememberance for the first time and after reading comments, I am sure that people at the club will be keen to improve on this going forward.

In regards to Micky, in the past Micky has read information over the PA and I have played sounds associated with the day too, in addition, as mentioned above we have also had the Last Post played by a Bugler and also a trumpet a few years ago. Going forward, I am certain that this will be looked at to see how it can be improved and how it can link with the screen. A big learning curve but my original point remains though, as a club, we can be proud that the whole ground was united in a memorable occasion and I think we should all remember that.

Thank you. Not our place to get involved, but feel free to contact Rylee at the Club on the back of some of the comments here. Rylee.doe@southend-united.co.uk.

I know I've been asked not to have Junior Blues flags at these Remembrance games in the past because of colours being present.
I know at least one of our fans who is ex military who contacted the club about being part of the day and never got a reply. We have quite a few ex and current military so hopefully next year they will be invited to take part

Some really interesting comments on here most agree the club should have done better on Saturday and probably a loss of communication ( somewhere ) so hopefully next time they will have someone ( staff or supporter ) and ask them to organise a remembrance service on the match day for 2025
