Reflex

Quote[/b] (* ORM * @ Oct. 07 2004,19:07)]It's just a thought but would an 80s venue be so popular because virtually all the modern stuff is sh*t ?? (obviously this excludes Miss B) Or is it just frequented by sad has beens in their 30s and 40s ?
I reckon nostalgia just happens in cycles.

When I think back to 80's when I was a kid, my parents always used to go on about 1960's and 1960's nostalgia was cool. Then in the 90's the 70's were being dug up so I guess in 10 years time people will be speaking of happier times when the internet was born, Britpop, Snoop Doggy Dogg, the Spice Girls, Take That and Playstation One.

Reflex went to the same place in Newcastle after the darlo game quality place part of a chain had a great night!

So not only can you now walk down any High Street in the country and go into all the same shops because they are all chains, eat in the same food outlets because they are all chains and drink in the same pubs because they are part of a chain (Yates, Weatherspoons, O'Neills etc) but you can now go clubbing in the same chain of night clubs.

Sorry, but am I the only one who finds this all just a little sad? Everywhere in the country is becoming a carbon copy of everywhere else and most people just blindly follow this sanitised corporate cloning whilst the companies count the profits. OK, it's only a tacky 80's club night but it's getting to the thin end of the wedge.

Andy.  It's only reverting back to the 70/80's anyway as many towns in those days had a "Tiffany's".  Don't know if they were a chain but I travelled round the country for work a lot in those days and they were all over the place.  Tiffany's in Sc**thorpe particularly comes to memory as a real cesspit of humanity (or is that just Sc**thorpe as a whole?) and recalling Tiffany's in Rotherham still gives me the shakes!

Depressing isn't it. Not exactly the Hacienda eh? I still have happy memories of the late 80's early 90's when the whole acid, summer of love phenomenom swept all that cheesy 80's crap away.
What's depressing is the big corporate players dictate everything about people's lifestyles these days from what you wear down to what music you listen to and where you drink. Dunno about Southend but Bournemouth is heaven for pretentious tw@ts. If you don't like poncy bars and R & B and Garage then forget it, they don't cater for you.

How can you say that?!  The pole-dancing there, at the very least, was first class...

That's exactly what me and W4 Shrimperette were saying when we were last in a Reflex (in Reading, and, coincidentally, also above an O'Neill's).

I reckon in ten years time all us types in our twenties will be going to a chain of 90s clubs called 'Wonderwalls', with Oasis, Blur, Pulp et al blaring out.

In thirty years we will all be living in replicas of Milton Keynes.

And if anybody is reading this that hasn't had the pleasure of visiting that city, just take my word for it that this is a very bad thing.

Any other SZ'ers in there on Friday? Only ask because I went along with the All at Sea lads and at the end of the night when the music ceased, I came out of the toilet and there must have been fifteen people on the dance floor bellowing a very audible "Tesfaye Bramble, la la la la la". Surreal!

I can't think of a worse way to spend my time.

BTW, if you want 80s music, stay at the Spread, it's all Chris has got these days.

On Friday night he was telling people he had an advance copy of the new Kylie album. Suprisingly enough I didn't go down the Spread on Saturday evening........

Talking about the spread I see Pauline has left and a new girl has started, someone did mention her name but my short term memory went around the 97-98 season, what are peoples views. Pauline/new girl/he-she?

If I can work out how to do a poll i think it only fair we vote for our favorite Barmaid

Dave's gotta be the best!!

God, i can't remember her name, in sure Chadded will know. Yup he does. It's Sally.

oh yes she knows exactly how to play the role of giggly barmaid. Short skirt, boots. wonderbra. It's all there. I keep trying to convince myself I don't fancy her and then keep staring at her every few minutes

Well it looks like a number of us will be heading off to Reflex on Saturday night. I'll be disappointed if I arrive and MtS isn't on display in the front window demonstrating some lap/pole dancing technique.
