Rangers going into administration bad news for the English?

I think that this will be bad for football, not for the usual reasons but whatever happens to Rangers HMRC are going to get severely stuffed on how much tax they are going to get , personally I think Whyte is trying to do a Bates and reduce how much more he has to put in by taking a hit on his current debt and stuffing other creditors. One season of nothing , relegation isn't going to happen, then rebuild next year.

Another high profile rogering of HMRC by a football club and everyone else will be chased even earlier as HMRC try to make sure that the debts don't build up and we know all about zealous HMRC actions

True , we complain a lot about HMRC , but the amount of shafting they receive does show why over the years , their attitude towards people hardens .

After a rather controversial decision against Wales (that other hugely populated nation :P) who beat Australia btw .

NZ didn't play Wales in the 2011 RU World Cup; the 'controversial decision' to which you refer was against France. And it was Ireland who beat Australia.

Incidentally, Wales did a fantastic PR job on that World Cup. They beat the teams ranked below them and lost to the teams ranked above them but somehow spun it as a brilliant campaign.

Rangers fans are delighted to hear an italian billionaire has bought their club.......administrators are trying to figure out how to tell them its the pope.

Im failing to see the logic of a badly run football team having a direct correlation to how well a country is run ?

Coincidentally, I'm failing to see where anyone has made the connection between how a football club is run and how a country is run.

Yup I confused the 3rd / 4th place with Australia . Lol well in your opinion , the kiwi team spoke out at being disappointed and wanting to play Wales , most commentators rave they are currently the best Northern Hempishere side mind (no last minuite wins over Italy :P)

"Presumably even the Scots aren't drunk enough to consider themselves a viable nation,"

From your original post m'lad .

Exactly, nothing about how a country is run. That's a comment on the feasibility of a plan, not a comment on how that plan is executed.

I wonder if they will be uber-aggressive with Portsmouth having lost out in the Mandaric/Redknapp case ??

Judging by the article I saw in t he Metro on the way home from uni today, I'd say it's pretty bad news for english footie - 8 Premier League or ex-PL clubs to go under similar investigations.

Bet Pomey's one of 'em.

I think the similar investigation comment referes to the payment of players wages to offshore accounts (which is the reason for the HMRC investigation into Rangers , the extra 9M in unpaid PAYE is an "extra")
I have heard that Arsenal isone of them.

Mind you if a couple of our players were living on Canvey the HMRC could well class that as offshore....

Arsenal were the first name that came to mind when I heard this as well.

Fingers crossed W*** H** are one of the clubs under investigation.

I believe it's tied into image-rights more than off-shore accounts. But maybe it's both. Rangers were using what they called an "Employee Benefits Trust" to pay their players inflated image rights payments because they believed that the tax on these were lower than the rate of income tax on those earnings would otherwise have been, and I guess they wouldn't have to pay NI contributions on it either. Rangers are allegedly being got at by HMRC as a test case and several English clubs will likely be in the sights afterwards.

Manchester United would be my bet.
