PS3 deals?

Having got a nice new Samsung 23" HD ready LCD tele for my bedroom this Xmas, I'm looking to finally invest in a PS3 but am looking for the best price possible obviously!

Play.com, where I get everything from generally is currently the cheapest at £279.99, which is the same as Amazon (although 2 days ago it was £269.99 on there, but has now gone up). I'm not really interested in getting a bundle including Blu-Rays and am looking to get the console on it's own. My first purchase with it will be Fifa 08 methinks (which Play are currently doing for £24.99!).

Anyone know of any place that has a better deal than Play? Even better, anyone know of anywhere, other than eBay, that still has the 60gb version? Seems to have finally sold out everywhere now. Cheers!

gamestation are generally pretty reasonable for ps3 bundles. depends what you want tho.

play is not always the cheapest for things these days. I tend to find I order most, but not all, from dvd.co.uk.

Yeah I looked at Gamestation, but they're combo isn't really what I want. Are they any good then? Never used them before.

Yep, I would say so. Got my PS3 and my Wii from em.

Also, try:

www.find-games.co.uk

If you are buying games it will give you an idea of what to pay. Not always 100% accurate when you get to the actual site but most often it is. Might save you some money if one site has a deal better than another. As it lists in price you might want to chose one you are familiar with. I have used HMV before cos their offer comes out cheaper than play via the above website. Any savings are better in my pocket than theirs.

I got COD4 (PS3) for £25 at gamestation aswell before xmas.

COD4 is the best game around at the moment, so addictive!! :guns: :guns: :guns:

Amazon do decent deals on PS3s, I got mine from there in the end having looked around for ages for the best deal I could find.

That was the 60GB machine though, I don't know what they're offering on the 40GB.

Got mine from Blockbuster Video ! £269 incl Fifa 08 and cain and lynch

COD4 excelent game but far too short finished it in 1 day !

I should tell all of you this now and so you don't go throwing away your money.

The 40GB Playstation 3 consoles are not good at all, they have no internet capability and no backwards compatabilty.

There is a large need for backwards compatabilty in a console, what it means is that a PS3 that is backwards compatable can play Playstation 2 and Playstation 1 discs. All games that are brought out on the PS3 will be brought out on the PS2 as well.

The only PS3 console that has backwards capability is the 60GB version, which has been discontinued and can only be purchased on eBay. They are purchased for around £450 on eBay, but if you are an avid gamer you can buy the PS2 versions and be saving yourself around £10-£15 every game.

The 60GB version also has the internet.

XD

My mate has a 40Gb PS3 and pretty sure it works online just not wireless. Also the backward compatability was limited so not everything would work anyway.

Believe the 40Gb has less USB ports aswell.

But as I have a 60Gb one I could be wrong. :o

And before christmas you could get a second user 60Gb PS3 from gamestation for the same price as a new 40Gb....

Where are you getting this from?

The 40gb does indeed have internet capability as I'm sure anyone who owns one will confirm. I know it is not compatible with PS2 games but I can live with that.

I presume he means that there's no internet browser with the 40gb machine although if that is the case then that's no real loss.

Backwards compatability was a big issue for me as I've got about half a dozen big PS2 games that I own but haven't played all the way through yet and didn't really want to keep my old PS2 out. It meant that I ended up buying my PS3 six months ahead of schedule so I could get the 60gb model before they all sold out. That said, it's not a concern for me with regards to future releases - if a game is out on PS2 and PS3 then I'll be getting the PS3 version even if it is up to £20 more expensive. If you're just going to get the PS2 version then you might as well just stick to your old PS2. I don't really understand that arguement.

my 40g has internet / online gaming they dont have card readers on the front and they have a few less usb ports also they dont play ps2 games but for the price diff you could prob buy a ps3 on ebay if you wanted to play the games that badly !

Can you just confirm the 40gb has wireless internet capabilities? Sure it has but just wanna make sure as my broadband is 2 rooms away from where the PS3 will be!

Yes defo can use wireless internet on a 40g
as far as i know my psp cant be used as a controler it can be linked up to view your pics movies mp3s etc from the psp but not games ! There is software in the pipeline so you can use the psp for eg rear view mirror in f1 etc
