Promotion doesn’t matter… does it?

I think it is massively important we take the chance we have now and get out of this awful league, with crap referees, teams that up their game against game at every chance and stadiums like Gateshead which would fit in perfectly in the Italian 4th division.

The two teams in our way are not anywhere the likes of Wrexham, Chesterfield and Notts County in terms of quality and we have done pretty well against them both this season so should have no fear whatsoever in facing them.

This league is notoriously difficult to get out of, and York losing out last night after taking a load more points than us says it all about how hard it is to actually go up to League 2.

I for one will not miss this league in any way, shape or form and have no interest in going to places like Boring Wood, let alone having to watch us battle against their sh1thouse tactics they seem to use every single game when it comes to playing Southend.

We got to the play offs on merit, but were the 7th best side in a not too great league so let's stop the loser mentality of being happy with going out in the National League play off semis, and really stick it on FGR and hopefully Oldham because this is a very good opportunity against two sides who for me,aren't exactly world beaters.

I think we're all pretending just a little bit when we say that we've done well to get this far and the rest is a bonus. Absolutely correct, but if it's nip and tuck right to the end tonight and we have the misfortune to lose in the last minute, then we will all be devastated.

As @Barling Magna says above, for a lot of people the trip to Wembley itself will be seen as a win, regardless if we end up promoted or not.

Of course we all want to win promotion, but it’ll be more heartbreaking knowing we got this close to a Wembley final, yet fell at the final hurdle, than if we actually lost to Oldham. I think. Maybe.

We're close enough to taste it now, it will always hurt more than a QF defeat.

Let's hope we'll be celebrating though!

90 minutes from Wembley but we've been 90 minutes from going out of business, or possibly closer to that at times. We survived that and we will survive tonight regardless of the result. I obviously would absolutely love to go to Wembley and love to get back in the Football League but this club has faced so much hardship in recent years I wont be gutted if we dont make it tonight.

We have done well to get here. But given that we are we should be 100% committed. I'm sure the squad is, and so should we. I don't subscribe to the "it's a year too early" theory. Take your opportunities when you can and worry about the rest later.

Can only echo some of the sentiments on here.

I want to go to Wembley.

I want to get up out of this division.

I think we can do it, and last week made me believe. If the opportunity is there, everybody must give their all to snatch it, and I'm sure they will.

But I don't think it will be a disaster if we don't get across the line, and I don't believe COSU think it will be, either.

This end to the season has been better than I could have dreamed of at the half-way stage. Specifically, last week's victory at Rochdale was massive. It was an example of "Southend United picks itself up off the floor again....this club just does not know when it is beaten!" making a return, and it was a glimpse of how close we are to tasting success again and how good it will look.

Huge positives to take into next season, whichever division we're in.

Coupled with the photos of the lads on the new training ground, and how brilliant and "levelled-up" it looked as a facility.....the future is bright, whatever happens tonight.

We're well in the mix, and we have just as good an opportunity as anybody else left in these playoffs. Here's hoping the lads do the job tonight.

I think we've inadvertently and unexpectedly stumbled into a situation where we could actually get out of this atrocious league right now. The efforts, backing and loyalty shown by the consortium, staff, players and supporters has meant we've made huge strides in a short space of time, so why not cap it off with a win tonight and victory at Wembley? Whilst we should respect FGR and Oldham, we have no need to fear them. It would be a fitting end to the season if we were to achieve promotion as it would vindicate COSU's decision to invest, Kev and his staff's decision to stay, the player's loyalty and effort and the quite incredible support the club has maintained and enhanced during the last few years.

UP THE F*****G BLUES!
