President Donald Trump

No need. :winking: Just accept that Trump misquoted Orwell in his tweet, (as you did by repeating it). That's something that Callan's not guilty of BTW in his signature.

On the general point, I don't think George Orwell would be too happy being quoted by people on the right.Generally those who've only ever read 1984.FWIW,it was almost certainly reading his stuff as a teenager (and later) that made me a socialist.

I don't do twitter. I certainly don't follow Trump. In fact anyone who gets upset by any tweet let alone one from Trump needs to have a serious long look at them selves in the mirror.

So on that basis I was not repeating Trump.

Nor do I (seriously).Think we've agreed that it's a childish medium. You just have to type in that fake Orwell quote into google and it'll take you directly to Trump's misquote.I don't get upset by Trump's tweets (I ignore them as much as I can).I do take George Orwell very seriously ,however.

So why do so many of you fear the truth. Why do you naively put your trust in the politicians of your chosen colour but never trust, or even hate those of a different party. Why are people so easily duped by the media.

Why are public sector workers banned form speaking publicly about corruption and mismanagement within their profession. What happened to freedom of speech.

Why do we continually back US military aggression on behalf of the industrial complex.....The reason is actually quite simple your politicians are bought and paid for, or blackmailed long before they get into real power......Trump is no exception.

Nobody on the left approves of military interventions, pretty much anywhere.Trump is easily the worst "politician" to have been elected to the Presidency in my lifetime.

As a Marxist,I don't always approve of Labour (I certainly had no time for Blair) or Democratic leaders.

You ask too many questions to be answered in one post.:winking:

Apart from you of course. Remember you wanted "boots on the ground" in Syria about a year ago. Happy to see young British lives wasted on yet another futile war with no possible chance of a positive outcome.

Many on the left think removing Saddam was the right thing to do. Even though it cost 1m civilian lives and the misery in Iraq continues.

Where have I claimed that?

When did I claim that ?

As for 9/11 like I say do your research. You will have to come out from your suitcase some time and confront your Cognitive Dissonance some time.

To quote George Orwell "During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act"

On Shrimperzone. That is the trouble with being a fantasist, you have to keep a track of all the stuff you have made up and that can be difficult at times.

I note you are trying to distance yourself from the rubbish you posted about the Jill Dando murder, but not about your lies about 9/11 and various other things.

Publish your evidence. Go on, really do it this time.

Oh and we are still waiting for the evidence that members of Shrimperzone covered up a paedophile ring as you have claimed.

While it's true that I reluctantly supported Trump¡'s punitive airstrikes a year ago (and I'm quite happy to admit I was mistaken then as recent events have proved) it's an absolute lie to suggest that I advocated "boots on the ground" in Syria or elsewhere, especially in Iraq.

FWIW,I happen to think that only those nations that have risked their own ground troops in Syria (ie Russia,Iran as well as Assad) have a legitimate right to be represented at the peace talks which will inevitably follow the eventual termination of the civil war in Syria. That's presumably why Cameron was so desperate to get involved back in 2013.Doubtless the USA (and UK) will be making noises off when that time comes, though.

I suggest you look back at some previous threads about Syria rather than make libellous statements against fellow Zoners.

A few years ago we were going to bomb ISIS on behalf of Assad, now of course we are bombing Assad which will of course help any Jihadis. But hey who cares its the ME so will get someone who's guilty. Anyway having a multi Trillion dollar military machine is a bit like that slab of beers I have nice and cold in the fridge....I really shouldn't but it would be rude not to.

You where happy to support British Troops on the ground as long as the UN gave some pointless directive....Don't remember its name or UN number.

I think the onus is actually on you to find proof for your vile lie in any statement I've made on Syria.Your clearly implied threat of libel is just laughable, of course.

While I certainly would have supported a UN resolution urging Western intervention in Syria, no such resolution has been passed, nor will be while Russia is a permanent member of the security council.

The situation in Syria is complex but most people in the UK,quite rightly, have no appetite-post IRAQ-for foreign intervention in the ME or elsewhere.

You might have but I haven't. It directly led to the Arab Spring for one. It's a great tool for democracy.

Potentially a great tool, I'd agree.Rather like most social media in general, given human nature as it is,unfortunately.

While we're on the topic, pehaps you'd like to mention any permanent effects of the Arab Spring you can think of?

"As of January 2018, only the uprising in Tunisia has resulted in a transition to constitutional democratic governance." Wiki.

Well the uprising in Tunisia has resulted in a transition to constitutional democracy.

Yes.I think I mentioned that in my original post.:raspberry:

Considering all the upheaval at the time in Egypt,Saudi Arabia,Libya etc that's not much of a return,is it?

I think no one can deny that whilst Twitter can be a force for good, it's also given a voice to some of the absolute slime of humanity, be they "for real" or a Russian Twitter-Bot or just a bored teenager looking to goad with words that they wouldn't dare utter in the real world.

It may have bought some form of democracy to Tunisia, but it also bought us Brexit and Trump, and that's in the English speaking world. God knows what damage it does elsewhere.

so I assume you'll renounce your profile forthwith?

Believe me, I've considered dumping all social meedja, what with the Cambridge Analytica furore. The trouble is, it's so ingrained into your life these days. I've blocked various people (those who get retweeted third-hand due to a certain SZer!).

Dropped both twitter and facebook years ago. Just do it for a week and you will have it cracked.

So Tangled I have found the proof on one of the previous threads about Syria and it turns out that I haven't lied or made any 'vile' statements about you.....The onus should be on you to apologise rather than trying to weasel your way out of it.

Actually,as I've said before,I've never approved of ground forces being used in Syria unless they followed on from a United Nations resolution to that effect. We're done here I think.
