Potential replacements for Keys and Gray?

Unfortunately, I suspect that he will be overlooked for this due to his sins in a previous (managerial) life.

Joking aside, he is a fine analyst of the game but I wonder if he would actually want the job. He comes across as being quite content with his coaching school for young players who've lost their way and happy to be wheeled in for the occasional Spurs game. Would he also be just a bit too urbane for the job? I'm not sure if his 'little whiff of lavender' would go down too well in the pubs and clubs around the country on a 'Super Sunday' somehow. Personally though, I think he'd be great.

As a licence-fee but not Murdoch payer, I'm hoping Alan Shearer gets tempted away by the big money move to Sky.

Failing that, I'd like to think that the job goes to someone with a brain (Pat Nevin?), but like you suggest I suspect Sky want to dumb down to the lowest common denominator.

You know, I think ESB's original suggestion of Ray Wilkins in the Andy Gray role could be bang on here. Despite his scarifying appearance, he does exude a comfortable manner on television and speaks with insight, even though he can be a bit too nice at times about the players. I wonder if Sir Des could be tempted out of retirement for the MC role? I used to love his sly little remarks.
