Blimey, what ever happened to Dagenham Kev?
The last I heard is that his mental health caused too many problems, and he got barred from Roots Hall. He was O.K. ish on his medications, but when he came to games without them or not taking them, he would cause all sorts of problems. I saved him once in the Far Post when he blew up for no reason and almost started fighting people. They barred him immediately from the Far Post. Then he caused more trouble in the East Stand, during and after games. It might have done him a favour, as he told me he was beaten up a few times on the bus journeys to and from Southend.

Matt gray - unattached (got a part time team promoted v Stockport and Wrexham)
Steve Morrison - Sutton (ex striker, highly rated but just started at Sutton)
Rob Elliot - Gateshead (bigger crowds, more resources in future?)
Andy mangan - coach Stockport (caretaker so little experienced but highly regarded)
Neil critchley - unattached (highly regarded)
Paul Lambert - unattached (not popular but has great promotion experience)
Michale appleton - unattached (perhaps won't want to drop)
Lee Johnson - unattached (as above)
Ritchie Humphreys - unattached (too long out of mgt?)

Southend legends who might be interested or are just fanciful thinking.

Matt Lockwood - genuinely looking for a coaching position (interviewed I think with west ham). unattached (super keen to get a role after managing a Caribbean island)
Adam barratt - coach Millwall (unlikely interested)
Paul Clark - unattached (opinionated - put money where the mouth is?)
Glen pennyfather - unattached (as above)
Stan collymore - unattached (big risk but still highly motivated seemingly)
Steve tilson - unattached (not far of heybridge swift's at this rate)
Darren currie - coach (tainted?)
Mark Bentley - coach (tainted?)
Spencer prior - unattached (move from aus??)

He did have a tendency to say the wrong things, not something he could control unfortunately.

Hopefully he’s doing ok.

I’ve seen him a few times in the East Stand and indeed the Far Post this season, and relatively recently too.

No more ‘Southend Legends’ please .. it rarely ends well ….
Can't think of any of them ending well TBH, legend or not.
Personally prefer someone with passion for the club and don't think any less of Taylor, Tilly or Powell since their management stints ended.
Anyway, I'm still firmly planted in the Maher in camp.

Good list as a starting point, I sincerely hope Kev turns it around and it isn't needed, but I have my doubts at this moment in time, but am open to change my standpoint in the future.

My opinion only, but a bit harsh on Paul Clark maybe, he has put his money where his mouth is and was the youngest manager in the league when he managed us. Earnt the right to comment on the club in my book.

I think this needs an update.
You do realise Elliott is at Crawley now? Critchley at Hearts?
Two others have jobs in higher divisions, four haven't managed for a while; Clark since the 80s, and one never: Stan. Two you suggest might be 'tainted' - that by the way suggests neither can think in any way but Kev's: they'll love you for that, lol!
Spinner is happy in Oz;
As you said: 'fanciful'.

Of the others, Gray was found wanting at Sutton especially as Paul Doswell laid the foundations, and interesting that after a year out, no one is sniffing around Appleton.
And surely Lockwood is a lesser Kevin Maher without the same success and status despite being one of ours?

Yes agreed on the need for an update. As shared, posted this a few months ago so just reposting without any additional research. More the point that at that time there were half decent options which at the season could also be the same

Not too worried about the "haven't managed for a while" if they're good enough and hungry enough.

As has been shared by a few, I wouldn't be surprised that a few high performing managers in the league could be tempted by the opportunity.

Lockwood super keen to get back into the game. Highly thought of apparently, has had a few interviews further up the pyramid. one of ours geographically but not historically.

Yes Kev is still about, He is currently sitting somewhere near me in the East Stand Green seats. I actually saw him at half-time last Saturday when he was following me down the stairs, he was still being very vocal kinda moaning about the first half display but let's face it he was not alone.:Thumbs up::Thumbs up::Thumbs up:

Hardly any managers tenure ends well ..

I said exactly that when Tilly got the job. I used to go to school with Tilly and he always had time chat when our paths crossed and still does.
But I said to my eldest daughter at the time, the only thing is at some time he will leave us, and hopefully upwards, but it never lasts forever in post as a manager.
