Youth Team
A lot has been said about their support, shame there were only 900 yesterday. Were they any better than your average League 2 support?

They certainly made a good effort in trying to be vocal.....poor numbers though considering they get 14/15 k at home.....900 odd!!...we had nearly 800 on a tuesday night at there place. Although im sure the weather and xmas spending may have reduced numbers.

Small sections of their support sang for most of the match, a couple of times they all sang together and it sounded fairly loud. Not the loudest we have ever heard but certainly gave it a go. I think there is a large section of their support that do not like the guy with the bell and stood away from him and his group.

As for numbers they have all but sold out most away games they have been to this season and considering they have well over 15,000 regular supporters you have to say 998 was a below average following for them.

Just had a quick look at some of their recent away followings in the league -
1,355 at Bristol Rovers,
1,497 at Torquay,
1,405 at Plymouth.

Portsmouth to Bristol is the same distance as Portsmouth to Southend and the other 2 are longer journeys than coming to Southend.

I had a friend and son up for the game from Pompey, sitting with me in the East Stand. He was dissapointed with the turn out, although i thought there looked more than 998. Only really got going when Pompey John turned up with the bell, trumpet and drum about 15 mins into the game. Other than that i thought they made some good noise. Shame about the morons that tried to get at the west stand when we scored.

Seemingly nobody bought trumpet man any trumpet lessons for Christmas. I've made better noises after several pints and a vindaloo.

Thought they were pretty noisy myself and got behind their team well. Got to remember they have had some very tough times and are having another poor season.

My cousin is a Pompey fan and was at the game yesterday, he said it was one of the best atmospheres he has ever witnessed and praised Leonard for both goals

I thought they were ok & I thought our chaps were good also - although it looked like they were giving Pompey the "Come on" after they scored - not recommended for Saturday.
Best bit for me was after the game - Almost everyone had gone but that guy who looks like a character from The Mighty Boosh hung about with Herb Alpert to play a few numbers seemingly for the hell of it .

Always thought Pompey were a bit like Millwall in terms of their support, always had a reputation back in the day. No one round pompey supports another team either. The last few years seem to have brought out a bit of a siege mentality, good luck to them.

From the SSU, I thought they were excellent - lots of noise throughout, although the drummer missed a couple of beats and the trumpeter seemed to get stuck in F

Just noticed this on the Pompey forum: "Southends fans are pathetic. Looked like a boys choir all stood in a little square with some fat plonker trying to coordinate them, all dressed in Ralph Lauren clobber. As soon as they heard us sing near the start they gave up and went quite. Pfft"

Only one thing to say about that. 2-1.

UTB!

Fairly vocal, spoiled by a few of pompey fans screaming obscenities at fans coming out of the East stand after the game. Pathetic. Above average, but not much more than that!

I thought the Pompey fans contributed to a good atmosphere yesterday.I know we have not played them for a while but many of their fans will have done our ground before, where that probably not the case with grounds like Bristol Rovers,Accrington etc.Playing at a new ground does make a difference to away support. We took more than average amount of fans to Newport this season purely because to the vast majority it was a new ground to tick off.

we were waiting to go down the stairs into the car park when some of the pompey fans were asking where our boys where at so thay could do this and that to them

Pompey have a reputation up there with Millwall, west Ham and leeds when he comes to football violence so I think our boys were nowhere to be seen yesterday.

A mob of about twenty with an average age of 15 were outside the away end giving it large until a solitary police vehicle came and they all looked very sheepish and ran off.

Could have got nasty and the police had all of two officers which they out outside the West.

Also saw a mob of eight of or heading round to the West Stand after the game. May or not have been Pompey but I suspect they were as doubt SUFC fans could have got that fast.
