Poor Crowds in the old Division One

Wasn't there a time when you had to be a registered fan and you were issued with a card? You were only allowed entry to the ground with that card.

That scheme ran for a number of years (& I still have them somewhere) but I can't remember what years/seasons that covered.

I think it was from about '87 to '91 and it was thought up by Colin Moynihan, Sports Minister circa '87.
 
I'm sure Vic used to under declare the crowds. We did an article in the Roots Hall Roar at the time. Often the crowd would be announced at about 5,000 and you would look and laugh, knowing there were a lot more in the ground than this. I would assume this was for tax purposes. Obviously I wouldn't like to suggest the extra was going into his pockets?
