I wish I'd mentioned overseas posters earlier. ALL posters are welcome on the Zone and all posters are entitled to post in any thread they have an interest in. You may listen to a game on the radio, or watch on iFollow if you are an exile. It really doesn't matter as, if you are a Southend fan, then your views are valid and welcome. As regards other posters trying to put you off commenting the remedy is in my post above.

Everyone is entitled to their views and as long it does not cause any harm to others and criticism is constructive then that makes for a good forum.
The problem we have is that you cannot tell a Tone of a comment in a text/post and the posting is then left open to the person own interpretation.
I certainly detest any form of continual "picking on" (and I am not going to use the word bullying) and I completely agree with OBL. I have posted on this forum for a few years now and have through here made many friends but alas, unfortunately being more male dominated on this site I have been (albeit in the past) subjecteive to sexist attacks which often have come via PMs. Luckily for me I am able to push these comments aside and stand up for myself and I have learnt to block these people.
I just think we are all adults and if we all respect each other and our opinions then there would be no need for threads like these.

I don't think I said anything different..... though I have seen some stuff that seems to think people aren't allowed to respond. And that is what I am getting at.

Fair comment. Think we have the same hymn sheet in front of us.

You do know that Overseas posters can watch all the games live, now, on I follow,. That must entitle them/us to make observations on games.
Nope, some think that their view from behind the goal of something that happens down the other end of the pitch Is better than your view from a tv camera that, for the that particular piece of action was perfectly placed. I thought that was obvious , you must be an idiot for thinking otherwise :winking::winking:

Don't think anyone is suggesting people who have watched on TV aren't entitled to an opinion.

The issue is that a MR&R thread starts two minutes after an away game is finished, with the first 10-15 posts littered with why PB is a clown or why Nile should be benched or why RM needs to pull the trigger (etc.) often the same posts that have just been put on the OMT as well.

One of the biggest problems is when an overseas blues fan makes an observation on a match that he has not seen, can get right up some posters noses. I tend not to say much about a players performances for this very reason, and i do understand those that see no relevance that overseas blues have to say about matches, but we must be allowed to post something about matches, otherwise whats the point in joining Shrimperzone.

I not sure people think that. The post match threads have improved in more recent times and the fact that those in faraway places can now actually see what happened should we welcomed. Its great that you can still be to still be a shrimper on Saturdays 15:00 GMT.

Likewise if some don't agree with what anyone says then its fair for them to challenge it providing its constructive and they have reasonable alternative. I for instance don't like people singling out certain players just because that poster has never liked them.

In the not to distant past many people who went to away games told me they were fed up with the same small few high-jacking match threads to express their own narrow and personal agenda. After a long trip back when things haven't gone well we don't need 6 posts by anyone let alone people who have nothing remotely interesting to say about the actual match.

For that reason perhaps People should say where they were when the game was on....I player, away end, Main stand or radio etc. As we have had a few cases of people falsely claiming they were at the game.

I often like a match report by someone even if I don't agree with everything they say. Others might nit pick one line of the report and focus on that. However if someone has made a reasonable effort to give their opinion that should always be respected.

This is the whole reason I stopped posting, a long time ago, I was fed up with being shouted down by the clique of posters that seems to know everything. Just because people don’t post on here very often, it doesn’t mean their opinions are any less acceptable than the regular poster.

There's a fair bit of Voltaire whistling round here at the moment, and rightly so. My take on all of this is that there will always be moments when posters get personal or aggressive for a myriad of reasons and there are options that posters on the receiving end can take. They can ignore it, they can respond and point out that they are unimpressed, they can report the post or they can put the poster concerned on 'ignore'. The other side of the coin is that the offending poster can realise that they have been unfair and apologise. Backing all of this up other posters can intervene and ask nob heads to desist, and finally, mods read the board and where necessary take action. It's not a perfect system but by and large it works and after an upset peace breaks out and life goes on. The rules of the site are well worth a read now and again just to remind us all of how we should behave, because now and again we forget. If you can't behave then the site rules cover that as well, **** off and find another forum to disrupt.

Totally agree, perfectly explained. Nothing more to add, thank you!

It is a shame that anyone feels the need to stop posting for that, or any, reason.

Feel free to PM me as we can usually sort things out.

As is mentioned in another post, things don't always read the same way as they are written and the last thing we want is members feeling, rightly or wrongly, they are being picked on.

Yes, Tinks was spot on with that observation, and I just think that the way the world has moved on with social media means that people don't stop to consider how something sounds. Everything is far too instant these days. I've been guilty of that myself as well.

The problem is some overseas posters watch the game on IFollow, which may well give a better overall view of the game than those stuck in the stands, so really that does not work

Agreed, I’ve seen more football since moving out here then I did when I lived a few minutes from the ground. Not missing Home nor away games it great. It’s only the late midweek game I can’t watch.

My opinion should count as much as anyone else’s.

You know we are on a downward spiral when you get a thread like this....in happier times this wouldn't be required

I think a lot of people kind of forget the rules of the internet, if you're replying to a thread on the Internet follow these rules

1) Read original opinion
2) Formulate opinion
3a) If you agree, either +1 it or just carry on with your life
3b) If you disagree or even think the poster is a tool continue with these steps
4a) Ignore it and just carry on with your life
4b) Type your reply
5) Read what you typed
6) Think to yourself - "would I say this to the person's face?" - If yes - go to 7, if no - go back to 4
7) Click "Post"

The same goes for anything that you yourself find incredibly funny. Not everyone shares the same sense of humour as you. That's why some people like Mrs Brown's Boys and those with a brain think it's utter dross.

If you go with this as a rough guide for using the Internet it will mainly work out ok. Following these points will help greatly in avoiding posts such as "why don't you meet me in person for a chat about this" etc. You're not going to change someones opinion by telling them that they're wrong. They've formed their opinion and you've probably got better things to do with your day like spend time with loved ones or something rather than arguing with words on a screen.

Much love.

With better performances, on and off the pitch, the Zone would be a friendlier place.

Can you all think before pressing Post Quick Reply, please.

I would like to think that the site could be self policing.

If you post something that upsets the wrong people you get your door kicked down at 4am, are tasered and then taken away in the back of a van
