We don't need that many signings. We need a commanding centre-half, an influential wide player with a touch of class and a pacey forward.

The trouble is they are almost the pieces you should start building from, rather than the final jigsaw pieces you need to build a side.

Actually if/when Clark goes, we'll need a second centre-half (or left-back if Barrett goes centre-half - and Herd is not the answer playing alongside Barrett as they are too small as a left-sided central defender/full-back combination).

Centre-half CERT. Wide player (Goweresque) CERT. Pacey Forward CERT.
General opinion is that Clarke will leave......someone to replace him CERT.
That's four ESSENTIALS. Sawyer or similar.......unless you believe that the improvement of Grant and Moussa (along with Macca & JFC) have solved the lack of creativity and need for a box to box midfielder.........if not that's five.
We should have a reasonable idea of our chances for next season......
........when we see how many of these elements are in place by the start of August. Could be that one or two of these players will be on loan........
.........but a year long loan please Tilly!

I think it's unlikely but I'll be happy if we stay in this position. I think we can reach the play offs next year if we can keep Dervite or sign another quality centre back.

I dont think we'll make the playoffs this season, which makes the Crewe and Millwall games that bit more frustrating

Still knowing us, we'll beat MK Dons & Leicester and lose to Cheltenham

I think its going to be one of those seasons when it takes more than 76 points to make play-offs so I think we will need to win last six to make it

The nightmare scenario is making the play-offs, getting to Wembley and losing to Scunthorpe from a last minute goal scored by Hooper from a cross supplied by Hayes (cheered on from the stands by Kightly)

i cant see it but a decent end to the season will give me optimistic hope for next year & something to think about close season..it was only 2 months ago that i thought we would be playing macc, morecombe & the like next season so huge credit to the players & t&b for geting us on a rich vein of form...

The Leeds manager thinks they have a chance of automatic promotion:

"Leeds United manager Simon Grayson has refused to rule out automatic promotion from League One.
Leeds are fifth, 10 points behind second-placed Peterborough, but they have one game in hand.
"It is still possible because of the number of games left and I'm sure other teams are thinking the same thing," Grayson told BBC Radio Leeds.
"The players now have massive confidence thanks to our current eight-game winning run." "

If he thinks they can make up a 10 point gap with 7 to play, then we can make up a 6 point gap with 6 to play. Can't we? ;)

The difference is they have a game in hand and we have played 1 more than the teams were chasing...

I have voted no for the following reason.

Imagine you're Scunny, currently on 67 points. Forget about Tranmere; imagine that the only team you have to worry about is Southend.

Given the GD difference, barring freak results, you only need 12 points from your last seven games to ensure that you get a play-off spot. That's only W4 D0 L3 which is decent, indeed very similar to what you've enjoyed so far this season - no better.

And then remember that that assumes that Southend win EVERY SINGLE ONE of their remaining six matches, which is, even for a team that is absolutely flying (and we're not in that category) very impressive.

For Scunny to miss out on a play-off spot would require either Southend to do exceptionally well AND Scunthorpe to do rather poorly, or Scunthorpe to pretty well collapse.

Of course, it's the same for Leeds, except they only require 11 points.

It's nice to cling on to the impossible dream, and it's fun, but that's all it is. It's not going to happen. In the highly unlikely event that it does happen, it's entirely due to the other team's failures. We just have to keep winning and hoping.

Milton Keynes dons is our target now, if we win at Huddersfield and MK lose to Brighton (need a win and a draw is no good for Brighton) that will make MK game at root-hall even more interesting, a win over them, we would be 2 points behind them!

If Scunny maintain their form so far into the next seven games (they have the last play-off spot) they'll have 79 points. We have 61 with 6 games left and an inferior goal difference.

So...we'd need to win all six remaining and score a bucketful of goals as well.

To sum up...no.

They will still have a game in a hand though and a much better GD. We have to win at Huddersfield first anyway.

All we neeed is two wingers and this side would compete for the top 2. We cannot expect promotion with no wingers. The spine of the side is terrific and with Francis at RB and two wingers we would be a worthy promotion pushing team.

MK Dons have only managed 6 points from their last 6 matches whereas we have managed 15. They have 7 games left and we have 6. They are 8 points ahead with a massively superior goal difference. If we both continue in the same vein (big if!) and they lose their game in hand we will do it! Simple really....

I need to be clear on this, are you suggesting we need two wingers?
