Now take emotion out of it, do you HONESTLY think that we're going to squeak into the playoffs this season? Maybe I'm a cynic, but I think it's too far of a stretch to make up those points and hope MK Donuts, Leeds, Scunny et al will lose at least three of their remaining fixtures, not to mention our lamentable goal difference.

Hats off to Tilly though for saving what was looking like a fairly dire league season.

i would say it's unlikely, but the table can change dramatically in one weekend, so if we keep on winning then who knows

I very much doubt it will happen, making up (effectively) 7 points in 6 games is too much to ask with a tough run in.

However, a point on Saturday will mean we've accumulated as many points in the last 14 matches as we did in the first 27! That's title winning form!

Agreed. If Scunny were only 3 or 4 points ahead of us, then we could all start getting excited now.

As it is, they're effectively 7 points ahead (with the goal-difference), with a game in hand, and with the likely huge morale-boost of a Wembley win to look forward to this Sunday - they're playing Luton at Wembley in the JPT Final and, to my knowledge, a bottom division side has never won the competition when playing a League One side (as well as the northern clubs generally doing better than the southern ones in that contest).

Personally, I think we'll catch and overhaul Tranmere and finish - agonizingly - 7th. Given where we were at the turn of the year, that's a pretty staggering accomplishment.

Matt

Of course we CAN make the playoffs...but almost certainly won't. Which is good for my bank balance becuase if we got to Wembley I'd be booking a flight over and I can't really afford it.

With a possible maximum 79 points we COULD (mathematically) still get automatic.

As for playoffs, past 5 seasons suggest we'll need between 71 and 76 points in order to make the playoffs. Looking at our last 6 fixtures, it's unlikely we'll win 5 of the six. Win 4 out of six (which is feasible on current form) then we might make it but realistically we shouldn't get hopes up.

The 20 plus years of following blues leads me to the following expectation: It'll still be mathematically possible on the final day of the season, though we'll be relying on other results. We'll be confident that we'll overcome already-relegated-and-bottom-of-the-league Cheltenham but will lose by a single goal then find out if we'd won it would have been enough.

Call me old and cynical but...

Mathmatically yes but in reality I dont think so.

Need to many results to go our way.

Depends on how scunny do with their game in hand. If they win it then 9 points, no chance of making play offs but 6 points, 7 if you include GD it is do able, highly unlikely but do able.

Just to be thinking it's a possibility is a fantastic achievement all things considered. Of course, while it's still possible we have to believe we can, but realistically, I think there's far too much riding on the outcomes of other teams' performances. All we can do is do our bit, and by winning all our remaining games then we'll have done our best.

Whilst its mathematically possible, I don't think we will be making up the points on Scunny, Leeds etc.

Our remaining fixtures are very difficult with trips to Huddersfield, Northampton and Oldham plus home games with MK Dons, Leicester and Cheltenham.

Its possible, but I think we will narrowly miss out. Probably finishing where we are now.

Scunny will quite possibly be 10 points ahead of us soon, so pretty much no. The dreams over in my eyes, I'm just enjoying the end of the season.

let be honest here....

Many on here in August were saying we was going down this year.lol

Never helped with losing Gower and with that prick Nicky going down Bailey refusing to play for us after the 1st game of the season

Steve and Paul have really done an amazing job

Any place in the Top 8 finish would be amazing... roll on next season I say

Happy Days,

Our fun for the end of this season will to cause M.K dons and Leicester as much agnst as possible by beating them.. Play offs? more chance of Jenson button winning the F1 world title ... er....

Personally, I think we stand little chance but if we keep winning it'll be an interesting run in.

If we do, and it's a big if, I hope this doesn't go some way to confirm in Ron's mind that success can be built on a team reliant on loan signings.

We can, but we'll definitely need at least 16 points from the 18 available, and probably need all 18. If we get to 77 points, and say have a GD of +6 then 2 of the following need to happen

Millwall to only pick up 3 points, ( or 4 points whilst losing 7 GD) from 7 games. Can we catch them ? No.

MK Dons to only pick up 7 points (or 8 points whilst losing 24 GD) from 7 games. Can we catch them? Win on Saturday and then beat them on Good Friday, and I would say yes.

Leeds to only pick up 8 points (or 9 points whilst losing 16 GD) from 7 games. Can we catch them ? Probably not, as their home form shoule be enough to see them through.

Sunny to only pick up 9 points (or 10 points whilst losing 12 GD) from 7 games. Can we catch them ? Possibly. The JPT final on Sunday may make them take their eye off the ball regardless of the result.

Tranmere to only pick up 13 points ( or 14 points whilst losing 6 GD) from 6 games. Can we catch them? Most definitely.

So summing up, yes it possible, but we need to win the next 2.

The amazing thing is that, at the start of April, we are still even discussing the possibility. It delays the inevitable 64000$ question, that will be asked as soon as play-off hopes are exstinguished. Will we manage to make the four or five signings in the summer, that we now ALL know are ESSENTIAL , to make us a force to be reckoned with next season????

We don't need that many signings. We need a commanding centre-half, an influential wide player with a touch of class and a pacey forward.

The trouble is they are almost the pieces you should start building from, rather than the final jigsaw pieces you need to build a side.

Actually if/when Clark goes, we'll need a second centre-half (or left-back if Barrett goes centre-half - and Herd is not the answer playing alongside Barrett as they are too small as a left-sided central defender/full-back combination).

While it's mathmatically possible we'll keep hoping, and i'm sure the players will keep aiming for it.

But realistically I think Scunthorpe's win at the weekend made it a bridge too far.

I doubt it'll happen personally.

But it has been such a fantastic effort to claw it back from how things were looking about 15 games ago or so. Credit due to Tilson, his staff, and the team.

We can be proud, and look to build on this run for next year.
