Rochdale will fail.
They lost yesterday to a 95th minute equaliser to lower league opposition and then went out on penalties to lose the chance of winning a trophy.
They've been promoted during their EFL days twice, both from the fourth to the third tier, but only in third spot ..... so no trophy.
They've never won the LDV thing under whatever sponsors name it comes in.
They did reach the League Cup Final in its embryonic days, but lost.
They last won a pot just before WWI when they were champs of the Lancashire Combination.
I suppose a couple of times in their Division Four days they did win the re-election vote, but no trophy for that.
To be a Rochdale fan must be hard, really hard.

As it currently stands, we can still make the play-offs, even if we now need other sides to screw up. So while that is the case, whatever your opinion of our head coach and squad, let's keep giving it large, support wise, home and away. They may have their moments (94th min yesterday) when we totally despair of them, but they are our Southend, and they are all that we've got.

Ok, emotive rant over,

Yesterday showed our failings because we consistently fail to beat teams due mainly lack of an out and out goalscorer.
Yes we can still make the play offs as we are still in the mix not sure how we would progress if we do but let's see how this
pans out in the next few weeks

It's not all over despite some saying so in various threads. We have 3 home games left where us fans can still play a massive part. The bookies still make us slightly odds-on to make top 7. They're not bad judges. So the players, the staff, the fans need to get over yesterday's nightmare ending, brush ourselves down, and go again. We can still do this, it's in our hands. Sit down fat lady.

On to next Tuesday:

Sutton v Rochdale. Can't see a relaxing Sutton getting lucky twice on the bounce. Rochdale will win.

Next Saturday:

Boston v Altrincham. We really need Boston to rediscover their winning form. After bursting out of the relegation places they have fallen back in so I think they will at least draw against a resurgent Alty.

Halifax v Maidenhead. Maidenhead beat Tamworth yesterday, but they will lose to Halifax.

Rochdale v Eastleigh. Rochdale will shoot down the Spitfires.

Southend v Solihull. We will win this. Because we always do.

Tamworth v Braintree. Tamworth will return to winning ways.

Forest Green v Gateshead. Forest Green will choke off Gateshead's Daggers-gifted resurgence.

If all that happens the table next Saturday night will look like this:

5th Rochdale played 41 points 67
6th Halifax played 42 points 67
7th Gateshead played 42 points 63
8th Southend played 42 points 63
9th Altrincham played 42 points 61
10th Tamworth played 42 points 60

Yeah its true. How many games have we lost since January compared to everyone except Barnet, well maybe even include Barnet now lol, and we are still taking that form into top 9. I am confident we'll end up in one of those top 7 places. Forest Green or York away in the semi final will be another matter. I do think we can upset Barnet at Wembley, their ball retention isnt great imo and that Wembley surface is made for our style. Then there's our huge 12th man following.

Probably blow it though, whilst we keep being all Spursy. Ffs.

Barnet at Wembley? Barnet will go up as Champions, so not in the play-offs.

Last 23 league games. Half a season. W 10 D 9 L 4. That’s 39 points, which over a course of a season would be 78 and comfortable in the top 3 or 4.

If we miss out this season it will be be from our poor start, losing Cardwell and Kensdale and being late to the party thanks to Ron.

It won’t be because we let in a last second equaliser against Sutton.

I had the Eastleigh/Halifax game on yesterday and Halifax were utter gash. Don’t underestimate the twists and turns and unexpected results coming up in the next couple of weeks, some of which may be our own.

So they are due, is what your saying 😗

At the risk of pointing out the obvious (and I hope we make it) getting in the play offs is not the same as winning back our place in the EFL  .

It would be great to make it. If we do get there after the difficulties of this season, that will be an impressive achievement. The thrill of it all, and our great support, could make for some exciting games in May too.
