I make you right. Its what he brings to the team that matters. One minute we are begging for a striker that can score and along comes Pigott and then people like rumbles think we should have two scorers. Never satisfied. Pigott is scoring because of Cassidy. A double act.

Rab bit,

Not scored in his last 20 games.
Last 76 games 5 goals
According to Soccerbase.

Yeah right Rab bit.

bit in what way? He pointed out that Cassidy has been involved in several goals, and it's his off the ball play and runs that create the space for Pigot to score. They work off each other. Without Cassidy, Pigot may well have not scored as many as he has.

Ive mentioned this before.

A certain player scored 3 goals in his first 5 games (a hattrick in one game).

He then scored 0 goals in 10 games in his first full season.

3 goals in 26 games in his next season.

4 goals in 36 games in the next.

Thats just 10 goals in 87 games, half of what Cassidy has scored.

Turned out to be the Premier Leagues record scorer, Alan Shearer.

Good old stats.

Since Cassidy signed, Pigott's goals per minute ratio is over twice as high when Cassidy has NOT been on the pitch with him, as it is when he has.

(Wonderful what you can do with stats - especially with a small sample)

Haha,

Plenty of Shearer's around then !

Cassidy's last 76 appearances he has scored 5 !

In 80 starts he has scored 20, a 1:4 ratio.

Good old stats.

I always thought clubs signed players on current/recent form, bit like international players if they are not doing it they won't be selected.

How many of us would have signed a forward who has hit 5 in his last 76 appearances or 1 in 15 during this period!

Now as I said I hope he scores plenty here but his record Imo must be taken into account, after all that's how football works, isn't it?

We once signed a player with 2 goals in 22 games. Had no current or recent form.

Good old Stan Collymore.

Good old stats.

Loaning up and coming youngsters is certainly nothing like selecting players for England. If they had lots of recent form they wouldnt be up for loan.

On that note Im certainly out....

You keep saying his last 76 appearances. How many of those were starts and how many were 5, 10, 15 minute sub appearances where it's hardly fair to judge based on appearance alone?

The only relevance of "fair" is that if they play for SUFC they are "fair" game for the regular snipers on here!

In 2012/13 when Cassidy was in a L1 promotion-chasing Tranmere side he bagged 11 goals in 26 games, not far off 1 in 2. Presumably that team created chances for their strikers, when he returned on loan to Tranmere last season they were fighting a losing battle against relegation and obviously weren't creating anywhere near as much.

The lad can finish if the service is good, he proved it at Tranmere first time round. What he isn't is a striker who is going to create goals for himself. Both Pigott and Cassidy are decent in the air and I get the impression both are "box men" who would do well if we played with two wingers who get to the line and deliver quality into dangerous areas for the forwards to attack. Do we do this enough? No, not in my opinion and that's why Worrall has to be one of the very first names on the teamsheet (and preferably Hurst too).

Nevertheless Pigott's goals owe a lot to the work Cassidy has been doing in occupying defenders and making space for his strike-partner by making intelligent runs off the ball. Great work-rate and he certainly deserves his place in the X1. People forget he turned down L1 clubs to come here so it should be obvious that the lad has ability.

Case closed M'lud.

Jake's career began in fantastic scoring fashion netting 16 from 30 which is very very good.

But since then he has gone off the boil in spectacular fashion.

His last league goal was 9th August 2014
His last 67 league appearances he has netted twice, yep just 2 goals.

I understand fully that some on here love to shoot me down which I don't mind at all,but you have to admit we struggle to score and then sign Jake who cannot score.

Phil must of spoke with his agent and asked "what is his ratio" with the reply being "1 in 33 " in recent league games.

The Harlow bloke who has scored bundles was surely worth a punt if he could have been persuaded to sign,Phil's forward signings leave a lot to be desired IMHO .
