PFA's player of the month

Mightn't someone smell a rat if there are 6 or 7 Southend players up for player of the year?

(Especially, heaven forbid, if we don't get promoted!!)

Interesting bit on the Echo's site about Bart getting the award:

Southend United goalkeeper Bart Griemink today revealed he had been shocked to win League Two's player of the month for December.

The Dutch custodian kept three clean sheets in five impressive outings but was still not expecting to pick up the gong.

"I was very surprised by it all to be perfectly honest," said the experienced 32-year-old.

"But I didn't know anything about it at all until my dad rang me up. He had been looking on the internet and managed to find it out so it was him who broke the news to me."

If we're looking for another candidate for next month wouldn't it be likely to be between Eastwood and Barrett?

Barrett would get my vote for consistency over each 90 minutes - although Freddy's job is to score and he's certainly consistent at that...

not at all, if we have more fans than anyone else voting and were sensible enough to collectively vote what can they do?

Hang on a minute here. Nicky's played two good games, done well in em and you reckon he's going for player of the month?

Barrett's a reasonable guess because he's been quality all year but Nicky? Come on....

Just a suggestion that was partially tongue in cheek. I wasn't expecting anyone to bite though.

Barrett on the other hand was a serious suggestion. Every game I come away from he impresses me, then it would have to be Maher.

To be fair I don't think one player has been spectacular over the last month or so. I feel that everyone is just performing well consistenly.

Just received a phone call from the PFA and I've got to write a statement for their website on why I voted for him, how I found out about the awards, etc. Sounds like the chance for a nice little mention for the Zone.

Dont mention our 'bulk voting' though. They may get a little suspicious! When will you be presenting the award? Half time? Before the match?

Nope, wasn't thinking of doing that!

As for when it'll be, no idea yet. The PFA have got to sort it all out with the club as to when they'll be happy for him to receive the award and they've also got to get one of their representatives down for the presentation, as they did with Paul Allen for when Barrett received his.

As a guess, I'd say it'd probably be before the Darlo game on the 29th.
