Pets

Maurice the rescue cat has now reached 19yrs old and shows no sign of dropping off the perch. Normal routine now, get up around 6.30am scream for food, eat the lot and biscuits and drink the world's supply of water, then his dementia kicks in and he forgets he's been fed. Waits to be carried up to his bedroom as the stairs are just too tricky, uses litter tray as outside visits are too hard, waits to be put on bed and wants to be brushed. This routine is repeated around 5pm every day. He had his Well Pet visit to the vet last week, verdict - very healthy. We want a dog and he hates dogs so I might just leave him on a park bench somewhere, that would teach the little git.

We had a cat (Sooty) who managed 18 years old which I thought was impressive for a cat but looks like Maurice is still looking slinkie and strutting his stuff. Fair play to him.

We have thought about getting a dog for some time.

After visiting a couple rescue centres, we stumbled across a charity that rescues dogs from Spain, mainly Podencos and Galgos.

This is when we saw a photo of Hector, who is a Podenco Orito. Roll forward a month and we adopted him. He’s an amazing dog, incredibly affectionate and intelligent. Very prey driven, but trainable.

Sadly Podencos and Galgos are horrifically treated after their hunting career ends or are surplus to requirements. Luckily for Hector he was very young and despite being a street dog he has a great temperament.

I would wholeheartedly recommend getting a rescue dog, we’ve only had him 2 months but he’s already one of the family.

A friend of mine is looking to replace her recently departed 17 year old cat. If any of you good people need to find a decent homes for any Kittens let me know

Maurice the rescue cat managed to position himself behind me in the kitchen whilst he was stuffing his face. As I didn't know it wasn't unreasonable that I should step back and tread on roughly 2 inches of his tail. It was a pretty loud scream that our boy let out (total tart).

Announcing the new addition to the SSID family, cocker spaniel Malti. We pick her up on 8 Nov when she is 8 weeks.
In tradition with most of our pets having Southend United related names, 'Malti' is made up of the first two letters of the two players with the most ever Shrimper combined appearances as player and manager (so, Maher and Tilson), with an 'L' in between for the first letter of our surname.
Donut the cat is unlikely to be impressed.

This is my Dachshund cross Brownie. We adopted him in 2012 from the Humane Society in Oregon - I think he had been treated pretty badly as he was super nervous and his tail had been docked (might have been a good reason for that but I fear the worst). Not sure exactly what breeds he is crossed with (probably a Beagle is involved somewhere) or exactly how old he is (between 10-12), so although he will always be Brownie, his face is getting a little whiter. He really is a great little dog, and he was very happy with his Halloween bowtie.View attachment 16300
My best boy passed away last Friday. He was a ripe old age and in a very bad way but it still hurts like hell.
