People's ideas of Attacking /defending

An experienced and tall centre half seems to be the consensus here. Is Richards the answer ? Who knows ? but the Clarke/Barrett partnership has to be on its last legs. AB won't like being the one left out and will no doubt be off to Col Ewe in January (oops sorry- daydreaming again :p )

Based on performances it should be Clarke who is left out not Barrett.

Clarke was very wobbly against Daggers and at fault for Brightons equaliser.

On his day he is a really good player but with confidence so low we cant afford the "mistake a game" he provides.

Barrett has had far more good games at left back than bad ones. Brentford away keeps getting wheeled out but everyone was rubbish that night. Remember Goater getting booed off that night? Because I certainly do.

Thats true, he hasnt had any other bad games there, however for me he doesnt look natural there, he doesnt really posess the qualities I want in a full back.

As soon as Hammell is back he need to go back but I would have a hard time choosing whether Id want Che or Adam there.

For me the decision is made easy as I want Barrett back in the middle with Richards....

I've seen Richards twice and agree he should be in the centre alongside Barrett.... Clarke is too weak in the air and on our small pitch exposes this, however when he played in a holding role in midfeild against ManU his tackling was quality and you can't get better opponents than Rooney and Smith.
And for the midfield Mousa should be in for his passing he brought the best out of Charlie Mac when he played against Watford so why was is he not playing?

Yep, hands up. Not entirely convinced about the first point but no disputing the others.

A terrible night and to cap it all a slow puncture on the way home (I thought the smell of burning rubber was coming from Bob Cratchitt's US Army issue latex self relief machine until a biker persuaded me otherwise along Lower Thames Street). Driving home from The Highway to Eastwood (via Shoebury for Bob C) on a spacesaver wheel was no fun I can tell ya !

There were plenty of other games he played in midfield where he wasnt good though.

Even a holding midfielder needs to pass the ball, no point winning it then giving it away, and Clarkes passing is woeful at times.

We've still got time to try out a few different combos.

Richards and Hunt ?

Francis at CB ? Certainly got the height.

Matt Harrold, oh sorry we need them to win headers.

I've clearly missed this entirely but what exactly is the scoop with Liptak, when can he play and why can't he play now.

Attacking= creating chances and taking them
Defending = stopping the other team putting the ball in the net.

The defending bit will never be sorted with clarke in the back four the odd big tackle is just not enough, we scoring goals(mainly from midfield I know) we been ahead against orient, brighton and daggers and lost, to me this is a defensive problem.

Well somethink is for sure.... when i played mens football i was told as a striker defending starts from the front line.... at the Daggers game i didnt see one of are strikers attempt to win the ball..... and as for the defenders i think we lack in hieght as many of you think.... Clarky is a good player when he wants to be.... but i say give Zoltan a go.... he tall and most proberly wins most balls in the air when im affraid Clarky doesnt!!!

Hunt can play centre-back but I don't think he's better than either than Clarke or Barrett. Francis is an interesting option and one that I mentioned a couple of days ago too. He played a bit there in his first few pre-season matches for us IIRC. He's got the height, he's good in the tackle and his distribution is ok. I'd be concerned with his concentration but then people used to say that about Rio Ferdinand.

Tilly said Liptak needed six months but someone on here suggested a week or two back that he was being put through some intensive training to build him up a little before being introduced into the side in a few more weeks.

Ohright.... Hasnt he got a problem learning the language ive heard....

I can see it now Barrett and Liptak will be are center halfs soon....

One can only hope anyway

Is everybody still on a witch-hunt round here?

Barrett and Clarke are both good defenders, but they don't win enough balls in the air. Couple that with a keeper who is suspect on high balls and you're asking for trouble. We need some height at the back. A Prior, a Sodje, somebody who can win the ball in the air against the big guys.

For what it's worth, I think one of Barrett or Clarke will leave in the January window and get replaced by a tall centre-back. We'll get good money for either of those two should they leave (because individually they are good players). It's the defensive partnership that's wrong, not the players themselves.

As for forwards, we need a re-shuffle. Hooper to Orient (they want him, he want to play for them) and then I expect Tilson to spend some cash and get somebody in a bit special. Tilson knows the kind of high-profile player we need and Ron has always backed him all the way. As for Harrold...leave the lad alone...he's played quite well this season in case you hadn't noticed.

And one final thing - Forest were the pre-season favourites and they're on the same number of points as us - I still expect them to go up at the end of the season. Early doors guys (and girls), early doors...

I agree with 99% of this... But Matty Harrold needs to go... im sorry but i just dont like the lad.. his 1st tocuh is dreadfull.. he abilty to hold the ball up is un heard of as he is a small skinny think.... i want him out... get a big strong attacking player in in january like Aaron Mclean of Posh or even a player from a Championship side who has fallen down the ranks at his club

But he's only 23 and going to get better. And you missed the bit about how he attracts defenders to him like a fly to a cowpat.

Look he ain't great, but at this level with a decent strike partner he's a useful option up front.

Mayb so but is Matty going to score the goals we need to get promoted again... the season we won this league all of are stikers were scoring.. even James Lawson who wasnt the best but was tipped to do great thinks for us.... i just feel we need a genuine goal scorer who is going to score us 20-30 goals a season!

Totally agree, he's not going to score anywhere near 20-30 goals this season, and we do need a 20-goal man. But a 20-goal man needs space to run into which is created by a big lad up front dragging defenders with him. All I'm saying is don't write-off the lad off just yet.

Yeah i see where your coming from mate.... i agree you cant write of him yet but we still need that 20 goal man up front for us

But who is there?

On Liptak:

is this not a really stupid move by Tilly.

We've signed him for £50K, for two years.

But we don't intend to play him for 6 months to "acclimatise", because no foreigner can play as soon as he joins??? So that leaves him 3 months at the end of this season. If he is still poor, we've wasted £50K and his wages.

If he's good, he'll be almost into that "final year" position in his contract and he can then leave us for peanuts. It's a lose-lose situation.

For me i would drop Clarke as for a so called experienced player , he doesn't command his back four enough and positioning is questionable as is his ariel abilty and pace , time for a shake up there .

I didn't realise he washed the kit. I thought we already had a kit man?

:D

But who is there?

Even if we were to sign this mystical 20 goal a season striker he'd be played alongside Harrold, not instead of him.
