People that abused Painter

When Paynter sat down next to Efe after being subbed, Efe got up and walked off

I've not been that impressed with Billy, he's on a wage and has a job to do so although i'm not a boo boy he'll get no sympathy from me. If he can't deal with and has confidence issues then he's not professional enough for this division.

But the likes of CS Joke and his cabal booing the player is unlikely to HELP his confidence!! Yes, he is paid to do a job but so is Eastwood and he was awful against Cardiff. Come on, let's BOO Eastwood as well!!

I thought Paynter was no worse any other Southend player yesterday and did not deserve the reception he got from many in the crowd when he was substituted.

HOWEVER - on his performances to date I can see why so many people get thrustrated. He has no pace - not brilliant in the air - positional play poor and most annoying puts less work in than Tes Bramble!!!

Every footballer will go through a bad spell but to stay on the crowds side they must put in 100% each week - Paynter does not!

Don't normally disagree with you Artful but I do on this one. BP is still a young and developing player, and as Xabia says booing him is the last thing he needs. I would point out the example of Gary Nelson who has no lasting affection for this club because he was often the target of the boo boys. He didn't perform to his best because of that and only really flourished at Charleton where he was a fan's favourite.

These "fans" may have the "right" to their opinion, but in my view the way they express their opinion has a considerable negative impact on the way that certain players, and therefore the team, perform and thus they infringe my right to enjoy the team I love performing at their best.

My experience is that people who shout the loudest about their "rights" are the ones who have the least interest in respecting the rights of others. A perfect example of this is those who post on here with inflamatory and dogmatic language aimed at certain players, and then scream foul when their posts (counterproductively) attract equaly inflamatory and dogmatic opinions directed at them.

I don't that than Eastwood was awful at all. A lot of what he tried didn't come off but he still single-handedly carried our attacking threat, despite hagving three Cardiff defenders on him every time he had the ball.

He's not helped by our tactics either, which yesterday appeared to be 'give the ball to Freddy and hope he can score'. He's only young and he shouldn't be under this sort of pressure to save us every week.

Quote[/b] (Beefy @ Sep. 25 2006,00:06)]I don't think that Paynter looks particularly good, I don't think that he's done enough to be any more than our fifth choice striker and I hope that someone else is given a run in the side alongsider Eastwood in the next few games.

But, the abuse he took today was disgraceful and I've rarely been as embarrassed to be a Southend fan as I was when his substitution got cheered today. I watched him all the way into the dug-out and he looked utterly dejected.
For once I'll agree with Beefy.  I will not join in with any abuse in the ground (muttering under my breath doesn't count), but reserve the right to post my misgivings about him on here & I didn't join in with the disgraceful heckling of him as he was substituted, but then I also didn't stand up and applaud him off.

According to BBC Essex yesterday Harrold picked up an injury during the week, which is why he wasn't involved.  But we must find an alternative to Paynter IMO.  He wasn't the worst of our players yesterday but that's because the rest of our players we so far off form as to be unbelievable.

I know the likes of Beefy & XS think that as we're not all experienced league managers we shouldn't comment on any matters but, I'm sorry, the lad's not a bad player but IMO he's at least a league, if not 2 above his true level.  I think Tilly panicked about our lack of strikers & signed what he could at the time.  Don't forget who sold him to us, P.I.G.!  But people have to accept he's on good money, we've paid a lot (for us) for him and if he wants to be a professional footballer at this level he's got to perform better than he has done.

Just out of interest I asked the question of someone yesterday.  Who is our most expensive striker (ignoring sell on clauses, as I'm sure there'll be one in BPs contract)?  I personally can't think of anyone we've paid more for than BP, but .....?

I have to say our other pricey acquisition Clarke also doesn't impress me either.

Including you!

I was sitting behind you and was utterly disgraced by your behaviour. You can go to 'TALK' on your own on Thursday!

Someone told me on Saturday that Paynter wanted to come down here because his girlfriend, peter Taylor's daughter, lived here. Not rising to this bit of malicious gossip I have to ask as , the last time this gossip gave me some titbit was that Eastwood lived in a caravan....how I laughed at his nieveity (spelling!)
wow.gif

I do not infer any speculation if true as to underhand techniques in gaining Paynters employ. And unlike Steve_clubshop...I didn't boo him!

The booing is even more pathetic when you consider that Paynter was probably our most effective player yesterday. The people singing f%&k off Paynter (which I didn't hear) are morons of highest order.

There's very few teams in history that have two 20 goal a season forwards. Wright and Bright at Palace was an obvious exception and I know there have been others but if you look at our great goalscorers over the last 30 years we've usually had a target man alongside them. The problem isn't so much Paynter, it's the fact that Eastwood isn't a fox-in-the-box goal-poacher. I think anyone we stick alongside Eastwood is going to have exactly the same problem and we'll get nowhere until we accept that fact. We'll definitely get nowhere with abuse !
