Patience is a virtue.............

For the record I don't think we'll get promoted either - but that's not much difference from August, where I was hoping for play-offs and then who knows from there.
Now and then we have seen glimpses of this squad's potential. I fear that it won't be realised under the current regime, who seem to curb individual flair and enterprise. For example Moncur looked full of ideas in his first few games but now seems to have regressed to the sideways and backwards norm of the rest of the midfield.

Which is why patience is still called for in my opinion.

So is the squad good enough? And I think the context was good enough for promotion, not just survival in the NL.
You said “Maybe half a dozen or so that would likely get another NL gig on a free and the rest may well struggle to get another NL gig.”

I think a dozen+ would get another NL gig on a free.

I don’t think the squad is deep enough and I don’t think the squad is balanced enough (lack of LCM, lack of pace etc) and what I presume are our most expensive players (Moncur, Bonne, Walker and Miley) have struggled with fitness. If two of those four live up to their wages I think we’ll make the playoffs.

We're not a million miles apart - I had half a dozen or so in NL plus a couple higher - so at least 8 good enough for NL.

There's a few I'm not sure about, and a few that I don't think would.

With just a little bit more patience, you'll get there.:Winking:

So Crowther, KAF, Morton and Pepple as the ones you’re not sure about?

The facts don’t care about your feelings.

We’ve improved year-on-year under KM’s leadership.

That’s not an opinion, it’s just counting.
Fair point although this season it's debatable (spine removed etc yes).
It's also fact that the same issues keep occurring and seemingly no learning from mistakes.
Struggle against the same sides with the odd good result.
With that in mind he wont take us to the league above with his management style.
We will be also rans at best

3 years is longer than the average tenure and it is crystal clear that Maher's methodology will not change no matter who we sign. He seems to have very fixed, rigid ideas, is frequently out thought by opposition managers during the course of a game and his choice and timing of substiutions is quesionable. Let us remember he has a very limited track record as a chief coach, he was only a caretaker at Bristol Rovers. If we are content to plough on season after season with this dismal brand of football support will inevitably ebb away and EFL status will be a distant memory not a realistic objective.
Not a single mention of almost constant embargo, players not getting paid, almost folding on numerous occasion....in fact this season almost didn't happen thanks to rat and rat Jr....if any of this isn't considered when judging Kev then your view is redundant to say the least. We beat Chesterfield last season with one sub available....but yeah go nuts on his substitution record. Out thought by opposition managers....go on list em, while not mentioning embargoes, no subs etc etc. Even this season is tainted with the delayed takeover. Also its October...chill out.

Just to keep repeating all the problems of the past few seasons is pointless. It's where we are now that is relevant. All clubs face problems with injuries, sales of key players etc but it is how you deal with them that counts. We have made a poor start to the season whichever way you look at it and whatever excuses can be found. We wil be playing catch up for many games to come to get in with a realistic chance of the playoffs. Goal scoring is clearly a problem, there is little or no creativity in midfield and we are playing with the handbrake on which is stifling any spark of inspiration as players take the easy option every time. Crossing is woeful and has been for ages.
Would love to see us turn over Tamworth today so here's hoping but the very fact we are even playing them and that they are above us in the table speaks volumes. Of course we have no divine right to be back in L2 but that should be our aim as a priority and when one hears the new owners talk about sustainability as their main objective it does make me wonder if we are being prepared to accept a lengthy stay in the wilderness.

Yes you are - the penny still hasn't dropped for some supporters - we will be in whatever league we are able to be sustainable in - they aren't going to gamble the future of the club on a go at promotion. If promotion can be achieved whilst on the track to sustainability (or after) then great.

It shouldn't be a great surprise - since the cliffs event in Jan sustainability has been the word.

I agree we have no divine right to be back in Lge 2 , but i do believe COSU stated thats what they want ASAP, as it would go a long way toward sustainability, our weaknesses are there for all to see especially in midfield creativity and which should if put right provide the strikers with more opportunities t find the back of the onion bag. We need midfielders not just able to defend but also create and score, now dont say they hard to find as it seems many other teams in the NL have found them, In part i put it down to the management Kev and Co and the way they want us to play, says a lot when your top goalscorer is RWB.

Well, what does it say when your top scorer ( more goals so far this season than McCallum, Doidge, Pearce, Rees etc) is a RWB?

Maybe our allegedly tactically inept manager and coaching staff have found a way to exploit other teams weaknesses with one of our prime assets ?

Yes but the problems of previous seasons take more than a few months to put right. Just temper your expectations and you won't be disappointed.

Shame our top goalscorer had to go and our other most promising striker had a long injury, we'd have been coasting had they been playing.
17th May thats when we went BACK into a transfer embargo.
I blame Ron.
Sack Kev all you like, but you aint going to get a manager in that can cope with a transfer embargo AND the after effects that brings with it. Like, convincing good players to come here, this absolute basket case of a club.
We've been a basket case since around 2009/10 when Ron wouldnt pay players.
**** me, 8wks into this season and fans turned their back on Kev AND the club !
Thats it, i'm not writing on this subject no more, absolute bollocks that people expect us to be top 4 after everything thats happened, top 4 in November that is.

Oh no, we're not even in November. 🤣🤣🤣

There’s a lot of fans who think as we’re an ex league club with a decent following (for the NL) that we should be automatically up in the top 6 and challenging and if we’re not, that we should just be buying better players to rectify the situation.

Nobody seems to be able to say exactly which players (available right now) would guarantee us a good run and what happens if it doesn’t work. Then we’re potentially left with a bunch of overpaid players who aren’t any good and another rebuild needed (sound familiar?)

I’d rather we persevere with what we’ve got for now, we look to maybe be turning a corner, looking more settled…players are coming back from injury…yes we need to improve a lot (set pieces for starters!) to get near the play offs but it can happen. What the players do have is a knowledge of the system Kev wants to play and a team spirit. Getting right behind the lads might be that % difference we need to win this afternoon.

Is sustainability even possible at this level if we are mid table?

According to COSU the aim is to become sustainable by increasing non match day revenues - if they're correct then I guess at what level we're at is secondary.
I very much doubt they would want to see us in the NLS. They IMO want to keep the crowds as high as possible whilst progressing with making the ground better for non football events to make sure the stadium is used as many days in the year as possible and not about 25. I feel it's a two way street with the whole project.

I guess the point is - as it stands we're likely not sustainable in NL, EFL nor NLS! The non matchday revenue is the key.
