Pathetic Tilson Interview

Pretty grim interview in my book. At the end of the day, the two huge centre halves that Crewe had were never going to lose headers against Dougie and Theo so playing that long ball was going to be a waste of time. What I dont really understand is that they were playing two quite attacking full-backs so there was space on the wings which a players such as Scannell or Betsy or Laurant could have exploited.

Got to agree. Hoof, hoof, hoof up too two little uns was a joke, as well as being very boring and extremely frustrating.
A little bit worrying that a management team of Two can't see that and shout out ''STOP THE HOOF'' a lot earlier than about the sixty fifth when the penny dropped and we passed it on the ground from the back.

Whilst I do hate Tilly's post match interviews with a passion, even when we win, it might help if BBC Essex had a reporter who actually asked some proper questions. Alliker's nicey, nicey approach and complete lack of journalistic prying put alongside Tilson's poor media skills make for some totally pointless interviews.

Do we have the ability in the middle of the park in order to pass and spread the play well enough? Macca cannot pick a decent pass to save his life, misplaced it many many times last night. Christophe is there to sit in front of the defence and break up play.

Maybe time to drop Macca and throw the Mousse in the middle, he at least has some ability at passing the ball.

I'd like to see Tilson swig from a can of Lynx/Kestrel super during interviews and swear a bit more.

I thought Tilson showed how tactical naive he is last night.

Both full back had our 2 wide players in their pockets all night, especially Moussa, every time he got the ball the right back shut him down and did not commit himself, making moussa make a desicion on what to do next, he failed. Forcing him to come central and leave us with no width.

Try Betsy try scannell give the full back a different problem.

I thought the 2 crewe full backs were outstanding last night very comfortable on the ball and neat and tidy players, would i kill to have them in our line up next season if Crewe go down.

As for Tillys interview he didnt give enough credit to Crewe for making us look very ordinary when it comes to craft and guile, we have none!!!!!

Tilly hit the nail right on the head tonight when talking to BBC Essex.

This is the one thing that i've noticed no-one has picked up on in viewing the threads tonights from SZ's very own distinguished panel of experts;)

He stated that the reason that we did not do so well tonight was because we failed to pass the ball.
How very true.Name one player out there tonight who passed well enough to open their defence up, not one.
People crack on about wingers, but Dario's 5 at the back meant there was soon 2 players to double up on our wing play and snuff it out.No, Tilly's right, better and quicker passing through Crewe would have proved results.

I think it's time people shut up about our manager's "apparent" misgivings and i'll probably get shouted down for this but hey.I think we should pay better attention to our manager, he knows his onions.

I'm not sure I agree with Tilly when he says we didn't pass the ball enough - we spent most of the night passing the ball, but in the main, it was either sideways or backwards. I'm all for us keeping posession and building from the back, but the trouble is, despite dominating posession in our last 3 home games, we do not have a single creative spark in the centre of the park.

You and Tilly are correct, we did not open them up enough through our passing, but we're NEVER going to open teams up with the current personnel in the midfield - it's not the players fault if we choose to have 3 defensive midfielders and a full back in the midfield.

The one and only chance, IMO, we had of breaking Crewe down last night was with some width - It may not have worked with them playing 5 across the back (Gudjon Thordurson's team that is, not Dario's! :) ), but it sure as hell wasn't working any other way, and throwing strikers at the situation without first rectifying the supply line seemed a little odd to me.

Firstly I'd like to say that the game itself was awful, having been in Leeds all day and then hot footing it back down in time for kick off I really wish I hadn't bothered.

A few points:

1. Another crap referee, terrible decision that resulted in the goal, a swift booking for Francis but a far worse challenge from a Crewe player simply resulted in a talking to, wasting more time.

2. Thought we had every right to boo at the final whistle, but those in the South Upper that continued to do so directly at Barrett as he came over were totally out of order. I was embarrased to be up there, regardless of the TEAM performance Adam did not deserve that.

3. Tilson's interview was honest, it was a boring game, we didn't break them down, passing was poor, seems to me he knew exactly where we were going wrong and made changes that ultimately made no difference. I do agree with a previous post in that Nick Alliker fails to ask biting questions in terms of tactics, performances and our squad. I seem to recall Tilly walking away during an interview because he'd been asked a cutting question, as a result BBC Esex's bottle seems to have gone.

4. The same old text went into BBC Essex again moaning about Kightley, Hooper and JCR, sorry but this is old and pointless, Kightley was an average lightweight player when he was with us, Hooper looked awful everytime he wore a Blues Shirt and JCR was never going to stay with us once we were relegated.

JCR aside, I've lost count of the number of players that have left us to go onto clubs and score a hat full of goals. Forget them they've gone and at the time we've all agreed that it was a good thing too.

This is probably the longest post I've submitted and I could go on and on and on.........

I made a comment during last nights game that I don't think I've ever seen our defence pass the ball sideways to each other as much as they did last night. Have our centre backs ever had that many touches in a game before? It was strange to say the least, but it totally summed up the totally lack of quality in the midfield ahead of them, which is why Clarke and Dervite resorted to thumping it up field more often than not as the game went on - due to a total lack of options.

They havent really got the quality on the ball (well, Dorian perhaps), but I'd like to have seen one of the centre backs really try to bring the ball out as far as possible and commit a Crewe midfielder into a challenge and free up a marker from another of our players.

Doesn't sound great. If they're sitting back, the two things you want to do is invite them onto you, and use the wings to hit them on the break or to stretch them.

I dont think that even if we set up a marquee selling cakes and coffee in our penalty box last night that we could have 'invited them on'! :D

you're right, but if we focus on moving the ball around the back and up the wings, it draws them forward as they try to cut off our passes

Yea I know, was being tongue in cheek. Sounds like a good tactic too, but like mine, flawed as we weren't good enough on the ball to consistently find a blue shirt (unless it was Clarke -> Dervitte who must have completed over 16,000 passes to each other last night, so thats a start)...
