Pathetic Tilson Interview

All the onus was on the negative tactics of Crewe and how difficult it is to break down. I don't want to know about Crewe - I want to know why 11 SUFC players who had a good and competent game against Tranmere on Saturday are totally inept and incompetent the following Tuesday?!?. He must have anticipated the Crewe tactics so what was his game plan 'cos it wasn't evident on the pitch! We could have been there all week and still not scored!! It would help if the interviewer was not so chummy and asked more direct questions like - Why did we not use wide players? What did you say at half time 'cos we could not see any change in tactics? The Crewe tactics is not the one reason for a totally inept performance. The tactics, if there were any, did not work and there did not appear to be a plan "B" - why not? It does not bid well for the derby match!!!!!!!

totally agree. sometimes i'd prefer tilly to come out and just plainly say "we were crap. end of."

Tilly must look at his options for a side and think..."Where did it go so wrong"

Just Barratt as the sole survivor from our Title winning side not so long ago

true. over the last few seasons we've lost;
flavs, stevie hammell, maher, gower, eastwood, bailey, JCR and have not replaced them adequately enough. if i was tilly, i would be wondering why. majority of these players came from lower leagues. does anyone believe that players of this calibre are not around at the moment? why can we not replace them?

Seeing Crewe's tactics after they went a goal up, we should have switched to a genuine 3-4-3. I would have replaced Clarke (purely tactical) with Scannel to add a bit of width.
Laurent, for me, should have started.

Excellent Tilson interview

Tilly hit the nail right on the head tonight when talking to BBC Essex.

This is the one thing that i've noticed no-one has picked up on in viewing the threads tonights from SZ's very own distinguished panel of experts;)

He stated that the reason that we did not do so well tonight was because we failed to pass the ball.
How very true.Name one player out there tonight who passed well enough to open their defence up, not one.
People crack on about wingers, but Dario's 5 at the back meant there was soon 2 players to double up on our wing play and snuff it out.No, Tilly's right, better and quicker passing through Crewe would have proved results.

I think it's time people shut up about our manager's "apparent" misgivings and i'll probably get shouted down for this but hey.I think we should pay better attention to our manager, he knows his onions.

All true comments to date, as I said on another thread re tonight Tilly's words in the interview were a disgrace.

I know he has a limited vocabulary, but the words he spouted tonight showed up far more worrying limitations.

I think he is better than that, its just sometimes he can be so blinkered.

I hope in the next life he does not come back as a rabbit. One attempt to cross the road and he'd be transfixed by the headlights and splattered.

He could get lucky as in the promotion years, find himself keep ducking under through the middle of the cars and escaping, but just when a bit of variation is required along will come a three wheeler and ...................

Oh dear

Yup, he knows his onions - what that game was crying out for was MORE men in the middle of the park - perhaps changing tactics to a narrow 433??

He got it spot on and I'm baffled we got nothing from the game...

We did... Sankofa went off with Francis dropping back and Barrett getting forward more which left the left side exposed. We did the same against Tranmere at the weekend

No offence but I think there were quite a lot of people who noticed tonight that we failed to pass. Unfortunately in my opinion that is why we have lost so many games this season. It doesn't take a genius to work that out. It isn't just Tilly's job to recognise where we are going wrong (plenty of people in the ground tonight would see that we have no creativity, no-one who can make that defence splitting pass and we haven't had since Sawyer.)Unfortunately it is Tilly's job to put it right, something which he fails to do.
Otherwise he isn't much different to Hanson or Lee Dixon sitting on the match of the day sofa.

We aren't a bad side and i feel this is just a blip, still encouraging that we haven't looked likely to concede since "Dorian" arrived. The free-kick looked fantastic from a Crewe stance, then they played even deeper and posed untold problems by covering their goal with players!

We'll be back, hopefully on Sat.

IMO Tilly has hit the nail on the head, we just did'nt pass a ball all night. Wot he failed to say is that with MAHER GOWER and BAILEY gone, we only have GRANT (who is injured )and MOUSSA LEFT that are capable of passing a ball from midfield . OH and he is playing as a left winger ! WHY ?

Tactics were very unimaginative tonight. The best way to find gaps in a packed defence is to stretch them out wide on both wings. As they knew we was coming at them down the middle, they just stayed central and always had too many bodies for us to get through.

Agree. Great first post. Welcome to the forum matey! We kept on trying to pass the ball around 10 men and pass it into the net or either score a screamer from 30 yards which would have been hard for players like Ronaldinho and Kaka to score!

didn't understand why we had 4 at the back for so long their only threat was on the counter attack and 3 defenders should be able to cope with their 1 striker, put a winger on and then go 3-4-3

Pretty grim interview in my book. At the end of the day, the two huge centre halves that Crewe had were never going to lose headers against Dougie and Theo so playing that long ball was going to be a waste of time. What I dont really understand is that they were playing two quite attacking full-backs so there was space on the wings which a players such as Scannell or Betsy or Laurant could have exploited.

Classic quote "One of the most boring games Ive ever watched"

Brilliant tilly! How do you think the fans who shell out money for that dross feel??
