Pat Baldwin unsure on future

I'd love to see him here, but he's unlikely to fall straight into our new wage structure. If Barrett does leave, then he'd be an absolute shoe in for captain next season.

Would love him here. But as ESB said, it's highly unlikely due to the wages.

I have heard, that we have offered him or will offer him some descent dosh but he has taken a cut, but to justify the high wages and probably to exploit the loop hole of 'wage caps' that if he joins us he will be in some type of coaching roll as well as a player.

Baldwin and Barret may be similar, but they are similarly physical and up for a bit of a scrap which is what we need next year. You effectively have with, Barret and Baldwin at the back, 2 captains. Two captain figures in the center of defence next year will have the little League 2 gems in their pockets. YES PLEASE!

Is it just me, being too critical?...................or is this yet another Echo 'no new news' story???

What do you expect at this time of year? I suppose Chris could just do a big news story on Eurovision entry Josh Dubovie and link him into Southend Utd as our Blues Idol winner! At least you have got something that has some kind of relevance! Come on, we all know that it's unlikely we'll get any news on signings for about another 5 to 6 weeks.

Exactly what I was thinking?

Basically

* Pat enjoys playing first team football
* Pat dosent know where he will be playing next season

Smacks of a end of May/June story for my mind.

'Pat Baldwin Unsure on Future' makes it sound like the guy is having a mental breakdown and is plagued by nightmares about nuclear holocaust or environmental disaster. I can just imagine that he is barracking himself into his flat this summer with a few bottles of Bells, tins of beans and a shotgun in case some zombies come after him. Either that or he'll join Bristol Rovers.

There's no way we should be paying £3k a week to anybody in League 2, which is why it's an absolute must that we get rid of Barrett. Therefore with that thinking, we shouldn't really be looking into signing Baldwin, because he'd command something similar.

forgive me if I'm wrong, but Barrett got his new deal in the CCC, and so surely we must have negotiated some kind of relegation reduction?? It'd be madness if we haven't.

edit: appears he signed it in L1, but my point remains

The £3k mark was more or less confirmed by RM. When speaking about Yeovil's captain being on around £1.5k, RM stated that Barrett was on more than double that, or something to that effect.

If Barrett is Mr. Southend as he professes, then he'll be open to taking pay cut so long as it's guaranteed that he'll be paid on time, something I understand that Tilson wants guarantees of. Funnily enough, I don't think Barrett will be open to such a pay cut at this time of his career.

Why should he? I wouldn't,would you?
After all, the contract was freely entered into on both sides. If it didn't include some clause for lesser payments in the case of subsequent relegation(s)that's down to poor negociating by the Chairman.

That's part and parcel of what I'm saying. If Barrett loves the club and wants to stay here, he's going to have to take a pay cut... It's as simple as that. We can't be paying a League Two defender £3k per week.

I don't think he'll take a pay cut, and so I expect it to be a mixture of him wanting to leave and us pushing him out the door. For Barrett's £3,000, we could pay two defenders, and that'd be fantastic.

But this rather begs the question of who's going to take on AB at 3k for the remainder of his current contract with us? Nobody in the Championship I'd wager, where he didn't exactly cover himself with glory, and presumbably few, if any clubs in League 1, at that price.
Like it or not(and I do,although I know you don't) I suspect we're stuck with him for the length of his current contract.A bit like our forced marriage with the Chairman in fact, until the wheels come off the FF pipedream, of course.
