How did I know you would say that. In all honesty, I think the best player to play alongside Loza is Corr. With Loza playing off Corr's flicks, Loza wil get even more chances than he had last night

Yep, my thoughts too. The only problem is that it was on telly and Loza will now be on a number of shopping lists. It could be back to shuffling the tortoises in a month.

I said at the time his sending off could be a blessing in disguise in the same way Dickinson getting injured was a couple of seasons back (not for him of course).

Being forced to change has certainly helped.

I dont think Ron needed forcing, he has backed Phil plenty this year, we have a pretty decent sized squad now.

Is that something you KNOW or something you assume? As I've as much as said on the post-match thread, this bad run has been continued a) because PB has been slow to address problems that have been evident to most of us on here. Or b) He's had his hands tied and hasn't been as free as we may assume in bringing in players. I DON'T know the truth but my suspicions vere more towards reason B.

As I stated some time ago something is not quite right in team selection,It was painfully obvious to many on here where the problem lay yet Phil selected the same old same old which saw us go on the barren winless run,Any manager worth his salt even after 5 games without a win would tinker yet Phil did virtually nothing.

Phil had had his slice of luck so now must ditch his dopey 451 and play 442 .

We have signed about 6 loan players and Barnard since January. Our squad is now 24 players.

That isnt the sign of someone with their hands tied.

Loza has pace for sure but also skill and a good attitude. He wanted that goal more than a free kick which, 2-0 up at the time, may have seemed a better option for some.

You do realise that we played 4-4-2 for half of the 12 matches in the league without a win?

During that spell

4-4-2

W0 D3 L 3

4-5-1

W0 D5 L1 (and lost that after we switched to 4-4-2)

And Brown says we were playing 4-3-3 last night.

Whenever Corr has played he has been the lone target,Fred and Barney started again Rovers and both were ineffective.

Last night Defo looked 442 with Loza and Barney so cannot understand Phil said 433.

No idea how you arrive at 442 in 50% of those 12 games,Can you explain your theory?

Don't want to be pedantic about this but the facts are these. We lost Kiernan at the end of the year and Woodrow was taken back by Fulham in January. In that month we signed Thompson on a permanent O'Neill on loan as well as Barnard (whoevers signing that was). By early February we had Thompson, O'Neill, Prosser all out with injuries and then Bolger came and went. I remember us going to Northampton with no central-defenders, apart from Phillips! We eventually brought Egan in on the 27th February and it wasn't until Sokolik arrived on the 11th March that we could be said to have two sound central-defenders. We've been crying out all year for some pace up front and we've had to wait until Corr was suspended to bring in Loza.
We may have slightly increased our compliment but not our choice because we've had 3 players out for most of this year injured. I'm not necessarily arguing with mrsblue.....but perhaps PB has only been able to work with what he has got. I'm just saying, someone is to blame and I don't know whether it is Ron or Phil. By the way I didn't include youths that have signed professionel forms, they weren't going to get us out of trouble this season.

Yogi, I think you have to take into account, that it's not just as simple as going out and getting someone in on loan. The players have to be scouted, (as PB alluded to last night), the parent club then has to decide if they want to let him out on loan, and then the player himself has to agree. Also bear in mind, Prosser was only due to be out for 2-3 weeks, we got loanees in to cover that but they both got injured in their 1st games with us, so we were probably well down our list of possible CB's before the Northampton game, and they just didn't have the time to get yet another one in.

Yes , I do accept that loanees aren't found on the supermaket shelf and there may be compexities that have passed me by in bringing them in. I would have assumed though, that PB has plenty of contacts and if he were looking for a replacement, there would be some choices, even if it wasn't your first, to bring in quickly on an emergency loan. This situation surely doesn't apply to a forward with pace, which most of us have been screaming out for all year. I do have my doubts, with others on here, that if Corr hadn't been suspendeded, we wouldn't have got Loza in. (Faults have been corrected...still tired from the weekend!)

You are being pedantic. Jam said 'about 6' and then you mention 5 in your own post. Arm't you actually agreeing:winking:

Great debut by Loza, he looks a great addition to our squad. His pace is something we have really needed in our front line. With our very solid defence and good midfield options we have reason to optimistic for the run in

Not at all  IN: Thompson, O'Neill, Barnard, Bolger, Egan (Sokolik & Loza in the last two weeks)

OUT: Kiernan, O'Neill (injury), Bolger (injury), Thompson (injury), Woodrow, Prosser (injury) and what about
Reid?

Jam Man was claiming that we had increased our squad to 24, I was just pointing out that our effective hasn't really changed much at all, since being under the embargo and that prior to the last two arrivals it looks to me that we were less well off.

I counted the number of forwards played in each of those 12 league games.

If Egan goes, Prosser can come back in, and you've then got Phillips and Thompson as back up. Hardly a problem. When's Bennett fit?

Despite what PB claimed, it seemed to me we played most of the game 4-4-2.

I don't entirely agree with Pace Pace Pace. We've all seen plenty of players with pace who are either bone idle and/or couldn't a barn door from 3 feet. What we appear to have with Loza is not just pace, but the energy and desire to chase defenders down and make life difficult for them. This clearly had an effect on Barnard and consequently the rest of the team. Allowing them to re-set and make tackles facing the opposition, which as we know is a hell of lot easier than trying to do it running back towards your own goal. That for me was the big difference.

I agree with westie, it wasn't just his pace but his energy. He was constantly harrying the Oxford defenders and Josh Wright had a torrid night with him. The penalty and his goal both came from his desire to get to the ball. He was really honest too. Take the penalty for example, he got up straight away after the challenge, and then for his goal, the Sky commentators pointed out that he could've gone down 2 or 3 times but he just wanted to score. I thought he brought a boyish enthusiasm to the team, and it was refreshing to see a young player playing with a smile on his face. Seems like a nice lad with the right attitude, similar to Assombalonga. Let's hope we can keep him until the end of the season, it's amazing what a bit of pace can do, especially at this level. And well done to our scouts for getting him.

It was also the fact when he got the ball he did something with it.

Played a few nice passes and dont remember him giving it away.

The only thing he did do was be too greedy on a couple of occasions when he was at a narrow angle. Cant blame him for trying to score and being greedy at 2-0, but would hope he would make better decisions if the game is 0-0.
