there are sour grapes, i think you would have been the same.

in my view its just frustration. With all due respect you are a long ball team (only based on the 2 games ive seen) We created so many chances and couldnt put them away, which is our own fault. just seems a bit of an injustice in my view but then again we couldnt beat you over two legs so fair play.

What a cheek seeing as you must go and watch West Ham every other week!! :winking:

yeah good point. we got sucked into a long ball game last night, really dont know why because we dominated when we put it on the ground. I think when batt plays we have the tendancy to hit it long. baffles me.

i just dont think you troubled us too much, thats the gutting bit. apart from pick the ball out of the net twice i think our keeper could have stayed at home. but again, you took your chances, far play.

Just do us all a favour. The weekend of the final make sure you take it out on Col Ewe, and completely smash them...

do our best. was gonna go to that game and someone decided it would be a good idea to have a christening that day :(

probably better off than going to that ****-hole

We arent though, we used to be a year ago but have changed. Oh and nothing long ball about the goal at yours, nor the winner last night.

Bear in mind we were far from playing our first team and we played how we had to. We have played better but we were playing a winger in the middle and a loanee who has only been here a few weeks.

Anyway, this is lower league football, if you cant deal with a more direct style then you are in trouble.

No we didnt, but then again last night you didnt exactly trouble us that much either, other than that really good spell you had after we scored which led to your goal. First game was different, Smith kept us in that one.

I thought Batt did well to be honest, took his goal well and held the ball up. Thought he caused us problems.

I have re-watched the game again, on the telly - both legs. Orient can count themselves quite unlucky to have not made it through. Over the two legs they had the best chances and played the better football. That said, I dont think they quite had the same desire (Batt excluded from that generalisation). They also are a division above us, and do not have a squad decimated with injury and suspensions. Football though is about taking your chances, which we did and so after beating a clutch of league 1 sides on the way, we fully deserve our place at Wembley.

I hope Ben Reeves can stay until May as a thankyou for getting us there and nailing his name to the folklore board with Benji, Drewe, Freddy, Jupp and a few others.

agree jamman and magnum.

thats why we cant moan too much, we didnt take our chances and you did. thats why you are in the final.

enjoy the day

His interview on Sky was interesting. I can't remember exactly, but he was saying it would be fantastic to play at Wembley. I don't think he realised his loan is up before the final. That said, I expect him to stay on until the end of the season. He's good enough for PS to want him to stay, and I can't imagine he won't want to stay given the incentive...

I've got to agree with the Orient fan I'm afraid. I did the opposite of the fan above and went to the away leg and watched the home game on TV.

In the first leg Orient had some fantastic chances in the first half but Paul Smith made some decent saves (not worldies) to keep them at bay. The second period was much more even as we had the first 20 minutes in which we scored through Ryan Leonard and then for the remaining 25 mins Orient came back at us and put us under pressure for the entire period. However everyone stuck to their jobs from our point of view and we limited them to only a handful of chances which considering their dominance was commendable.

Last night Orient started the game much the stronger and we looked nervy. They took the lead with their first real chance and to be honest I feared for us as for the next 10 mins or so they looked like they'd go on and get further goals.

Then they seemed to run out of steam in the latter stages of the first half and Sturrock also made the call to withdraw Alex Woodyard and bring on BBBC.

Orient started the second half much how they started the first but we battled back into it and got our first equaliser from one of very few opportunities through Barry Corr. After this goal went in the players seemed galvanised and we raised our game for the next 5-10 mins but Orient looked dangerous on the break and we nearly got caught out when Batt hit the crossbar.

Orient then had another spell of sustained pressure and we were continually trying to find Britt down the channels or getting Corr to win flick ons but it wasn't really working and the ball just kept coming back. They had the penalty appeal which I feel would have been soft but I've also seen them given. Once Mooney put Orient ahead on the night I could only see one side going on to win it.

Our only real hope was holding out for the lottery that is penalties and it looked like it was heading that way. Then Hurst got away and stuck it in for Reeves and we're heading for Wembley.

Over the two legs I'd have been gutted if I was an Orient fan. General comment. Who wants to support them? No but seriously they played the better football and created more chances and Paul Smith certainly kept us in it in the first leg. But the whole team defended well throughout both legs and we took our very few limited chances when they came. For that I'm proud of the boys but the players will be well aware that they can play better than that. And with the spine of our side missing in recent weeks its totally understandable that results and performances may suffer.

Cresswell is back on Saturday and Tomlin is hopefully not too far away either. With Barker and Phillips returning last night we should have close to our strongest line-up in the next few weeks and hopefully we can make a late surge up the table.

Up the Blues.

Reeves is a quality player in my book, wish we signed him.

But you've got Batt. He isn't too shabby either. Personally I think he's the one player in your team that did cause us problems. I know most of the chances fell to Mooney, but I thought Batt was (is) a far better player.

Not too sure about Batt. Certainly his best game for us last night. Only on a months loan i think so goes back next week which is a shame. I think he came with no fitness. His problem is that his shooting isnt up to much and touch is off sometimes.

We missed Lisbie badly in both games. I think if some of the chances had fell to lis we would have been planning the day out in april. oh well.

You're probably better-off. They're all old testament up there, into ritual sacrifices and speaking in tongues. You'd have to spend a few weeks growing eyebrows on your cheeks in order to blend in. Nah, stick with the Christening. Oh, and you were the better side last night. Sorry an' all that :high five:

We've been in the same boat. We get players in on loan that aren't fully fit. It's usually their touch that takes the longest to come back (much like a break from golf) so it doesn't surprise me that he struggled to score. However, he held the ball up very well last night.

I take your point about Lisbie, but you must also bear in mind that we had about 6-7 first team regulars not playing last night. They were one of the following:

  • Injured
  • Suspended
  • Cup Tied
  • Injured, but on the pitch!

yeah i knew that, baring that in mind you did very well to be honest. weve got about 3 first teamers out but nothing on you.

I really hope we get promoted this season (I would swap Wembley for promotion - cue a whole new(old) debate!) so that we can play eachother again...

As my dad said to me last night, "This is a proper cup tie". But, I didn't think it was anything out of the ordinary for Orient/Southend matches...

yeah i thought that last night actually. decent atmosphere, bit of hatred from some fans but a healthy rivalry. Do miss playing you lot sometimes.

Hopefully we will be playing you next season! Never had any reason to hate Orient fans TBH, only real encounter I've had with one was a drunk one on the train on the way back when he was mouthing off about you lot once winning the FA Cup, although he was slurring his words and it was more funny than anything!
