Opportunity lost?

Coach⭐🦐
I work in Slovakia and was approached by a colleague who was aware of a Slovak U21 international defender who wanted a move to UK. His club were resigned to selling him but not to a rival team.

So I contacted SUFC, addressed to RM, but sadly I have not heard anything.

I also, through my connections, offered to facilitate a pre season tour here with another UK League club against amongst others Art Media - who beat Celtic 5-0 last year. Would have been easy to do, Slovakia is a 2 hour flight from Stansted, cheap airlines, cheap beer plus football in the sunshine. And nada.

Oh well I tried. Would loved to have seen some Shripmers over here. Cest la vie

Not expecting to hear to be honest but would be nice; shame too that there is no interest in tour. I suppose Gillingham and Dagenham in July for you guys!

I am posted to Bucharest in September and would love to refer some talent there but I wonder what the point is!

Come on you Shripmers

south247 - I'll certainly mention this thread to Dave Scriven, the club's media manager. Whether it then goes anywhere is rather up to the club!

:)

South 24/7 you have hit a raw nerve with me . Having worked in Central and Eastern Europe for the last 15 years I have found it very frustrating that so much talent emerges from these 'small' countries .. at other clubs than ours .

Not only would tours be welcomed , but some clubs are in such dire financial straights that for a very small cash injection they could become feeder clubs . BTW in case you read this Ron there are development opportunities as well .

You only have to look at the success of the Czech clubs in EUFA cup this year for proof (oh and thanks Defoe otherwise we could have been going there next year).

Thanks 24/7 for bringing this up but I'll be amazed if anyone at Roots Hall has got the b***s to take this further.

Agree with you. Lots of talent and technically gifted players here. Many on low salaries so bags of potential and a keenness to make a break through in UK. Look too at how well the Hungarian payers are doing. In an ideal world SUFC would have a scout here to pick up bargains.

And would be a great place to come on tour - and cheap for supporters. And easy to arrange. Shame that other clubs are less reticent.

Would be good if Southend Utd FC goes on an Europen tour, play agasint 3 Cezch & Slovakia club, be good experince for the players to play agasint them, and we get some talented Cezch or Slovakia players as well - I do hope SUFC have the b*** to replay to your @mail - its worth a look at some of the talent which you suggested South24/7.

Iam sure talented players from Czech & Slovakia league earn 1'000 or under a week, that within our budget as well.

Come on SUFC, pull your finger out, lets have a proper pre-season tour for once.

Would a Slovak U21 player even be eligible for a work permit?

EU Citizen, just as much right and you and I.

For those who know E. Europe, Koper in Slovenia, won the youth championships for the last 4-5 years in a row. In 2005 I play against them and never been on the pitch with such technically wonderful players, needless to say I doubt Tilly is even aware of the place Koper, and why should he? But I bet he'd get there quicker than his trip to Hull mid-week.

Up the Blues and lets hope that SUFC tap into this potentially fruitful market.

Bet he would enjoy it more too !

What's the point, Matt? I know Dave, yet even my humble suggestions (a couple of years back) that the club should at least have a look at Maltsese international striker Michael Mifsud went ignored (now at Coventry)... as did a more recent heads up about a young U-21 Maltese international who was being given a trial by Newcastle after he impressed them in a couple of games they were monitoring.

I don't expect much, but a 'thanks' and maybe a follow up would have been good... rather than a insulting silence from a club I support and a member of staff that knows me.

Several years ago (pre Middlesboroughs trip) I contacted the club about a short preseason tour of Libya , after a client of ours expressed a desire for an english club to play the national XI in Tripoli (It was at the end of our last season in division 1 as it was then). The club were very receptive and things progressed until the matter of payment was raised. The Libyans had offered travelling expenses , 5 star accomodation and entertainment for all of the party , Jobson / Adams wanted 25% of the gate money as well (which would have been impossible due to sanctions in place at the time) so it never went ahead.
Personally I can't see RM being less receptive than VJ but GK is a different proposition.......

Interesting.

I feel a poll coming on - where do we want our pre-season friendlies next year ????????????? --

Czech Republic

Hungary

Slovakia

Slovenia

Libya

:(

That is a shame. In Dave's defence (although not responding is a wee bit indefensible, I have to say), he is sorely overstretched in terms of his work-load...

I appreciate you trying to find a reason for the silent treatment (twice), but I have also been extremely busy... but that didn't stop me trying to give the club a heads up.
