Open training session at Roots Hall today

fbm

Blue tinted optimist⭐🦐
So I went along this morning to watch the open session at RH (not open to everyone... I think it was for sponsors and club partners) and it was really interesting to see a full session.

In the shooting practice and final drills, there was some fantastic finishing, especially from Oli Coker, plus some good saves from all the keepers.

Other interesting factors -

Collin took part in pretty much the whole session and can't be far away, as did Crowther.

Kendal was restricted to running but seemed to be moving pretty easily.

There was a young lad I didn't recognise who I can only assume is our wonder striker from the U19's (but if anyone knows different please let me know!).

As well as Collin and Hayes there was a 3rd keeper, a young lad who looked mustard at shot stopping. Dave Martin was there with what looked like someone from the FA and a representative from another club. Maybe the keeper was something to do with them?

JD was involved in the training which was good to see.

All in all, a good morning!

Yeah, good to see you there, Mark, in good company!

We reckoned that the young lad was Jack Stone from what we could work out from pics.

Dave Martin was there with a bloke from the FA, someone with a Crystal Palace logo'd gilet on and someone else. No idea why - did your companion have any idea? The young lad also involved in goal keeping is one who has regularly stepped up from the youths on matchdays for training, can't remember his name though.

Good session, clearly everyone in good humour - some of the shots....wow!

We asked who the young outfield player was and received a non-committal response, which made us think he wasn't one of our youths.

Possibly, or they could just have been trying to prevent this kind of speculation!

I've got a friend who is quite into Witham Town. They recently played Brentwood and he was having a chat with Daniel Ogunleye.

Apparently he is still in contact with Darren Currie and when he asked him about linking up with Southend permanently he said you never know what the future holds. Mentioned that he loved the time training with us and gained a lot of experience in how the step up from part time to full time is. Said he was concentrating on his game and goals (which he has continue to score with March seeing him score 8 goals including 2 braces and a hat-trick) and was looking forward to the end of the season when options and opportunities will arise.

Daniel Ogunleye is perfect to play either flank in a 4-3-3 formation or become a impact substitute.
