One game loanee XI's

First name escapes me, but surname was Glover (Alan?) loanee from West brom back in about 1975, played one game against Herefod, broke his leg and that was his career gone! Midfielder.

March 1983 Barry Delf - goalie - played v. Sheffield United, loaned from...er...um...Witham? Somewhere that way.
Won 3-1 with Colin Morris scoring for the Blades.

Barry Delf was playing for Leigh Ramblers in the Premier Division of the Borough Comb and for Trinity in the Southend Sunday League, when he got the call to play in this game as a non contract player. He was working for Access then. I believe he went on and played semi-pro for a few years at Dartford and maybe Grays.

The keeper you might be thinking about is Jon O'Brien, who also worked for Access, but was playing for Maldon when he joined Blues and played a few games around 1986. He subsequently played for Chelmsford.

There is an interesting PS to the Barry Delf story an mate of mine (and Canvey's) was the Leigh Rams 3rds keeper. The day Delf got the call to go to RH the 2nds keeper was injured so my mate stepped up to the 1st's and had a good game. Col U had got the word that the Leigh Rams keeper was worth a look and came down that day, ended up taking the Leigh Ramblers 3rds keeper on as reserve cover for 6 weeks. He recalls a young John Fash clumping him in a reserve game at Norwich

Steve Anthrobus, nearly played away against Hartlepool in 1990 but can't remember why at the last minute he did not. We drew 1-1 and I remember local oiks throwing stones at us in the away end. Lovely way to spend a Tuesday night!
