Pre-Match Thread Oldham v Southend United F.A.Cup replay

Just seen on twitter that the bbc radio 5 sx are coming live from oldham tonite with live commentary on the game. At least someone in the media seem to agree that this is the big replay!!

DANIELS
CLOHESSEY PHILLIPS BARKER GILBERT
LEONARD GRANT TIMLIN MOHSNI
HALL
DICKINSON

HARRIS, STURROCK, PROSSER,SAWYER,MORRIS

Give Ryan a free role tonight , he's our matchwinner .. get him in the space , on the ball ,, he'll hurt Oldham. Also Dickinson must get a lot more support from midfield... when we attack at pace , in numbers , we are awesome . Make use of Leonards width , with Clohessey overlapping at every opportunity. Fill the box with the long throws . Get Bilel round the back on the far post + put those headers away! If it aint working bring Sawyer + Harris on + lets attack em . Oldham arent anything special. Forget the last couple of matches , our minds have been on this one. Now lets prove that those sacrificed games werent wasted. This is the big one. Everyone wants to play at Liverpool . We all remember 1979 , lets start talking about 2012, so lets raise our game + get at em early.Lets get the Oldham fans moaning at their inadequate team. Win every 50 50 . Show that we can beat these mid table northern monkeys as we will be playing + beating them next season in Div 1 . We are going up . We are winners. We are Southend. LETS GET AT 'EM !!!!!!!!!!

I think we could get a result tonight. 2 bad performances doesn't suddenly make us a poor side.
I don't think I'd be so uneasy about tonight's result if we'd only put 2 bad performances in. The reality is that we've had 2 bad results at the end of a run of 5 or 6 games which have been bad performances. The difference is that last 2 games we've been playing teams that are good enough or on enough of a roll themselves to have found us out. Oldham most certainly have the potential to be in that category too.

Just seen Danbury's post as I was posting. That's the spirit!

Everyone has their selection problems................don't know about Paul Sturrock but I've got to now decide whether I go with Blues Player or Radio Five Live .

Feel the same would love to see us win tonight but not at the cost of the promotion, keeping that alive has to be number one although the Anfield tie would be great for the players, fans and the £'s for club. We had that terrible run after stuffing Man U losing 13 or so games.

Was lucky to have gone to Anfield in 1979 and would love to hear the cop chant Southend again.

Must be mad as Im going tonight, Ol blue eyes and I drove back from that area yesterday :stunned:

I would imagine he is taking his police pension by now.

I think Sturrock should at least give Sawyer half a game to prove himself. If all is failing at half-time, stick on Sawyer and see what he can do.
Going to be a bit brave with my prediction but I'm thinking (hoping) 1-2 Southend. :whistling:

Just checked we had gone 12 games without a win before the Man Yoo game, the run was 17 games altogether.

Why should he have something against him? Maybe he just doesn't rate him. Conspiracy theories abound!!!

Including the one that says PS doesn't rate him. Why would he sign a player he doesn't rate? PS himself said there are things he needs to work on that will turn him into a starter as opposed to a sub, but that doesn't mean PS doesn't rate him...

On another note. I work in Old Street and need to go out right now to buy a digital radio and clock (wonder why!), other than PC world near Finsbury Circus, does anyone know of an electrical shop nearby?

I know you what you mean, its been my dream to see us play Liverpool but cant help thinking it would be a huge distraction. On then other hand IF we did get through it could be an incentive for some players to up their game. Also I hope it doesn't go to ET tonight because we have a game on Friday!

Been there, Done that. Twice:raspberry:

Bit tired of reading posts suggesting we would rather lose so we can concentrate on the league - away days at anfield in the 3rd round don't come around very often I can assure you - I'm praying for a win tonight and fair play to all those traveling up. We can get promotion and play at anfield in the same season - greedy I know but for god sake we deserve a bit of success.

I'm going too so there will be at least two of us there!
M62 should be interesting if winds are high again tonight

Snake pass or the woodhead for me tonight. Sheffield hasn't been to windy today but it's bloody cold

Personally I think it'll be Grant, Leonard & Harris in for Kalala, Ferdinand & Mohsni. But we shall see.

Can also see it going to extra time. Good luck to all those going tonight, you might have to resort to the conga to keep warm.

UTB.

Who else is making the trip? heading over the Pennines after work, come on you blues!

Never ever thought I would feelt his way but after saturday I can honestly say if Ron Martin sent a bentley for me, offered me unlimited Tapas on the way up, paid for me to get in and then offered me a seat on the board I still wouldnt go.

Was also dissapointed to not see sawyer mentioned aswell. Think he could do a real job in midfield, but obviously sturrock has something agaisnt him and doesnt want to play him.

Either that or a great bluff and Sawyer will play and be our main man tonight.

Cant make my mind up about tonight, do I want a Blues win, yes I suppose so, at least for the sake of thoses hardy souls making the trip and the thought the resulting payday could come in handy in January.

However I fear the first team could suffer the same result at Anfield that the yoofs had last year and that would make my life miserable with a Liverpool supporting workmate.
