Post-Match Thread and Ratings Oldham FC 3-2 Southend Utd

Sadly we were 2nd best on the day, Oldham fully deserved it and of it wasn't for Fondop having the shooting ability of Callum Powell they would have been out of site after the first half. Credit to the boys for twice pulling ahead and it is the hope that kills you. Can't understand taking off Kendall instead of Hopper but not going to go into my personal gripes about today's performance. Great to see so many of us turn up for the match though. Next season Rodders we will get out of this league.

First things first, I am absolutely gutted. To be winning 2-1 in ET to lose 3-2. Wow. Talk about playing with your emotions. That’s football I guess and good luck to Oldham.

Focus now needs to be on recruitment. We need some decent players to get back into the EFL. A decent striker who is going to put chances away. We have 1 or 2 clear cut chances to put it to bed today.

I didn’t think we would make the playoffs. I didn’t think we would beat Rochdale after trailing 3-1 and I didn’t think we would beat FGR after going 2-1 behind in ET.

We go again next season. UP THE ****ING BLUES.

To be honest the better team won as they created far more chances than us but at 2-1 we lacked the nous and on field leadership to hold on to what we had.

However we are a better club today than we were yesterday- our huge potential was there for all to see

Onwards and upwards, remember the hurt and learn from it.

Despite losing it was a day to be a proud Shrimper.

At Liv St station now. I could disect the game and how we failed but instead its a well done and unlucky. Proud to have seen them give it a right go. Dont forget Oldham turned up thinking they'd batter us, hilarious to see that one get poked in before 5mins. We partyed and we fell silent but by god everyone will fear us next season.

Completely gutting. Can’t really begrudge Oldham the victory considering how many chances they had and squandered compared to ours. We gave everything and ultimately just came up short. Taylor was colossus, KAF also superb. A very hard one to take but we have to be proud of the efforts and the season as a whole. Let’s be honest, finishing 7th you clearly don’t really deserve to get promoted.

Gutting. First goal was delirium. I missed their penalty. Our second was a great team goal. They just caught us with their second and third. That’s football isn’t it.

Always knew this game would be a coin toss and could come down to a refereeing decision or player mistake; looks like both in our case. For me personally - although I believed we could do it today - it hasn’t felt like a promotion season, so hopefully with an unencumbered preseason and some decent signings we can have a proper go at 25-26.

A good day out bar the result and hopefully that’s character building for the lads. And it feels a little soon to say but of all the teams to go up I’m glad for Oldham, proper club, and their fans have been through it. That’s all the consolation I can take from this one.
