Offical St George's Day Thread -

Please confirm that there are suitable halal and kosher options.

No one should be omitted or left behind in 21st century Britain - it's what St. George would have wanted.

Are cherry bakewells ok? They wheeled out some fancies but they looked a bit French to me.

Just put my England flag on the front window.

F*** THE MUSLIMS
F*** THE TERRORISTS
F*** "RACIAL DICRIMINATION"
F*** THE GOVERNMENT

ENGLAND TILL I DIE

I am all for celebrating our history , culture and country. I would rather it was not clouded with war mongering rhetoric.

Lets us remember and celebrate English achievements and this things which make us proud of this country. Shakespeare has already been mentioned in another thread. but we have also given the world,
The Steam engine
The printing press
(with a bit of help from various countries who have laid their hats on this sceptred isle over the years), the most Unversal of the Worlds Languages.
Football
The Beatles
Penicillin (although Louis pasteur did influence a bit there)
Isambard Brunel and Thomas Telfords feats of engineering
Probably the most respected remaining Royal Dynasty in the world (with help from the French , Germans , Dutch and just about every other European nation going, but hey we still have ours and it knocks the Spanish one into a cocked hat and who remembers the Dutch Royal familiy)

There are many many things which this country can say they have given the world (although probably Britain would have a better claim) but we should remember that, as a previously frequently invaded and more recently (last 500 years) heavily immigrated nation, we have had been ably assisted by the sons and daughters of other nations and we should not be tainting our celebrations with unwarranted xenophobia

One thing you missed off your list that we proud Englishmen do better than most: irony.

Like decrying the lack of pride in our culture and heritage, whilst butchering the English language; like attacking immigration as an assault on our national identity whilst ignoring the way our history and culture has been shaped by it. What other nationality does irony better?

I agree with FS, for me it is about the country achievements including all that FS listed and of course the longest pier in the world that has survived a few fires and drunk tug boat captain.

I sent an e-mail around the office wishing all a happy St Georges with the below pic attached although the responses I got are not really repeatable!!!

Looks like the Borient badge.

A great summary I think and a huge shame that some others on this thread have missed this point altogether with the 'no surrender' nonsense.

It isn't ****ing nonsense when there are still SCUM trying to denounce this country and all it stand for.

Singing 'No Surrender' isn't really doing anything about it though.

Especially during a Southend match.

One thing about England that has improved over the last few years is the considerable decrease of white dog poo in the streets...

One thing that has not improved, I have just learnt, is the distinct lack of bonemeal in dog food that prevents the existence of white dog poo.

It's a disgrace, possibly.

With England not qualifying for last year's Euros, I didn't have people reminding of this 'No Surrender' policy every time I went to a pub to watch football.

As such, I very nearly did, but a quick bout of 'No Surrenders' whilst near Chelsea's ground during an England game soon saw me right.

I did some research on this a while back... (I am that sad).

It is due to calcium being taken out as a major ingrediant of dog food.

Can someone please explain to me when there was ever a war, or even an arguement between England, and the Irish Republican Army, beit the 'Real' IRA, or any other similar organisation. It's just that last time I checked, it was British Government. And anyway, many people on both sides of the water regard Good Friday 1998 as surrender, for both sides. So that arguement/song is complete tonk.
