Norwich have extended Matt Dennis contract

Yeh, and thanks to Sheffield f...ing!! Utd they are the reason our run ended like it did and they didnt even play him! They ruined our playoff charge for no reason.Ill remember this if we ever play Sheffield again.
sometimes Shrimpet steve you really put your foot in your mouth, We had 3 very decent loans from SHeff Utd ,i wonder where we would have ended up without them, Personally i say thanks Sheff Utd and hope we can get the same from them in future years.

Tons of potential and is a game changing player. His pace gets behind teams and gives an outlet which no other player we have can do. I rate him and think he's exactly the type of player we want to be keeping.

For me having a real pacey striker at this level to get behind some of the donkey defences in this league is a huge advantage.

Didn't post it though did you.

For me, he's a player destined for a non-league career despite his pace and occasional moments of brilliance.
He reminds me a lot of another ex-Norwich loanee, Jamar Loza. Technically I’d say Loza was even a little better.

Since he left us, he’s played for Maidstone, Billericay, Chelmsford, Kings Lynn and Woking, which is where he is now at the age of 27.

It certainly looks like Maher still rates him enough to try and keep him. He's a bit of a curate's egg for me. It's been said that he is probably the laziest trainer of the squad but he's also one of the most popular. His speed is an asset until an oppo defender treads on him and then he drifts out of the game. Whilst scoring he is dynamite in short bursts and gets in positions our other forwards don't even think about. When he's not scoring he doesn't add much at all because his chasing back and second ball winning is pretty much non existent. But I can't argue with his vein of scoring goals, so I'll leave it to Kev to fight his corner.

I guess the question for next season is will he get a game? With Murphy, Dalby, Cardwell & Powell already under contract will Dennis bring enough to the table to get into the side?

Powell has pace, Murphy has the poachers positioning, Cardwell has work rate and Dalby has excellent control at this level for his size.

If we bring Dennis back next season I'd be surprised if we brought another forward in although I guess that depends on what formation and system the coaching team want

I really don't understand all the negativity about a young lad who had his 20th birthday last week. His first season playing men's football, away from the Under 23s. He has pace, quick feet in the box, anticipation, composure and finishing ability and as shown at Barnet the ability to play in a player in a better position to score. He might not have a lot of stamina yet. That may come he is still a boy. If you don't think that Matt Dennis is any good, there is no point us running an academy as he is far far better than any of those from our Academy in the last 5 years apart from the rare gem like Dru.

I am stuggling to think of any other 19 year olds in this league who have held their own.

He’s not a youngster like 23 year old Clifford or Harry Phillips who is 25 in September.

I doubt anyone is claiming he doesn't have ability and some real good qualities. However if you are 19 and don't like to train and make the most of any slight injury the NL isn't the place for you. Especially if your earning more than anyone else in the squad.

Good luck to Matt, Norwich wouldn't have extended if he wasn't going to the EFL on loan

I hope you don't mind the edit.

Back in the day, so was Freddy Eastwood.

So if you had a choice, who would you prefer?........................tough one eh?
That would be an interesting debate, but it's not really the point I was making. The point was that how you train might be a frustration for managers and teammates, but isn't indicative of how good you are.

That said, it can't be that much of a frustration for KM if he's interested in keeping him.

More like thanks Darren Currie….he’s the one with the contacts, not our manager!

Surprised at the some of the comments regarding Matt Dennis here, I feel some people are forgetting his age and the amount of potential he really does have, he thrived throughout the unbeaten run in a inform team, and then came back from injury to a team out of form, which means scoring goals would always become less likely.

He could be a marquee signing if we get him, whether that's for a fee or what, if even there being a slight possibility of us getting him. He obviously loves it here and has a great relationship with the fans, a lot of players would choose that over going to a higher league team where he may not get minutes, may never hit the same form and ultimately fizzle out - look at the likes of Kelman, Hutchinson, Jack Payne, Dru Yearwood when he first moved (doing very well now). I think he could be a great success for us, especially under this management and the advice of Collymore. It's just the big IF on whether we would actually be able to sign him.

Dennis has the physique speed and talent. It appears from the anecdotal evidence on here he's not making the most of it for now. We started the season with a load of guys without the physique speed and talent who did their best and it didn't go well.

It's unbelievable. We are talking about a 19 (at the time) year old boy who scored a load of goals on loan which were instrumental in arresting a 3 year miserable descent down the leagues.
So, of course, the experts in the know on here are now queueing up to criticise his attitude and fitness and write his career prospects off.
Thanks for the goals and the points Matt.

Dennis will never make it big because in my opinion he’s just too lazy.

It’s probably the reason why Arsenal let him go as a kid.

Not my cup of tea unfortunately but that’s just my opinion.
Or maybe someone at Arsenal noticed when he was 18 that he wasn't as good as Saka and Smith Rowe (England internationals) and he might do well at a club like Norwich ?
