Former Southend United striker Noel Hunt has been named first team manager of Reading.

Hunt has stepped up from his previous role as the Royals' under 21 manager to replace Ruben Selles who has left to take charge of Hull City.

A post on the club website confirmed: "The club has always believed that Noel has all of the credentials to succeed in management, and is widely regarded as one the most exciting young coaches in the country.

"He has built an unrivalled reputation for developing some of our most exciting young talent, and has the full backing of everybody at the club.

Hunt, who scored four goals in 22 games for the Shrimpers during the 2015/16 season, also played for Reading during his career and was in charge of the club on an interim basis in April 2023.

The 41-year-old will be begin his spell as first team manager at League One leaders Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.
