Nifty gadgets that improve your standard of living

Think we've discussed this before, but I eat loads of rice (whereas I don't have a car or drink coffee) so sell it to me.

What exactly is its advantage?

Does it take less than 15 minutes? Does it leave less washing up than cooking it in a pan and draining it in a sieve? Does it use less energy than an induction hob?

You dirty rice amateur.

It takes no time at all. You put it in the rice cooker, wash the rice, put a bit of water over the top and in 10-15 minutes you have perfect rice every time. Not like the snow you make, obviously.

The ground floor of my house is split level.

How much of a pain in the *** would it be to move it between levels on alternate days?

why would you want to cook rice upstairs?

seriously, presuming you mean the roomba, no probs. In fact it also has stair sensors to stop it falling down.

I cook rice in the microwave, I had a rice cooker and sold it at a boot sale, hated the thing! Rice always stuck to the bottom, it was handy if you were entertaining large numbers and needed a hot rice dish to go with chillis or curries though. Only ever used it under those circumstances, you can cook rice perfectly well in a saucepan or microwave for up to 6 people.

Gorilla hand ashtrays and tiger skull drinking vessels are a bit if affordable luxury I couldn't do without.

Rice Cookers are so easy to use, the rice tastes perfect every time, they are fairly simple to use and clean and they save all the mess of rice over boiling or that horrible stodgy gloopy sticky rice resin you get round the side of the pan. You free up a hob and you don't have to worry about over or under cooking it.

People knocking it clearly don't have one as once you do you will never turn back.

My rice is perfect on the hob. The only reason I might try out a microwave pot or cooker is to free up a hob. I do love a good kitchen gadget though!

Had it for years now, but i still love my iPod. Used it loads when I was flying twice a week for work and now it's perfect for the drive in. All my music in one place, plus any podcasts I want. It's a few years old know so probably going to die on me soon but it's been fantastic.
