Cant really see the advantage of going back up until the new ground is ready. Reason being that we are so limited at Roots Hall regarding budgets/wages. If we did go straight back up then surely we would have the same scenario experienced this season, i.e difficulty of attracting quality players because we cant afford the average wage for the championship etc.
Until we relocate and gain the extra revenue this will generate we are still very much in the 'small potatoes' list of clubs.

I don't really want us lower mid-table but the current line-up should be good enough to get a top half finish and if we can add a bit more quality up front and some solid defenders then a top ten outisde the playoffs would be a good place to build on.

we can be champions definetly as our side is stronger than when we went up last time providing we keep the players. but i just cant see us doing it, mid table for me

18th just avoiding relegation with a visit to wembley v leeds in the paintpot trophy, 1st round exits of the league cup and fa cup

I bet you are not a "My cup is half full" or "My cup is half empty" kind of a guy.............

I bet you are "Its the wrong Ferking size Cup" kind of a guy

Mid-table. It's very rare for sides to drop into league one and then bounce back up at the first time of asking. Man City did it. Leeds may do it. But no one has done it since Brighton - relegated in 2002-03, bounced back up in 2003-04. But they only escaped relegation again in 04-05 by one point, and then went down in 05-06.

So long as we play well and look to be making progress next season, I won't be unhappy. League One looks like it might be a pretty tough division next season, after all - it could look something like:

Southend United
Leeds United
Nottingham Forest
Yeovil Town
Oldham Athletic
Swansea City
Carlisle United
Tranmere Rovers
Millwall
Doncaster Rovers
Port Vale
Huddersfield Town
Bristol Rovers
Luton Town
Swindon Town
Crewe Alexandra
Brighton & Hove Albion
Gillingham
Hartlepool United
Walsall
Northampton Town
Cheltenham Town
Bournemouth
Leyton Orient

Not many easy games in that division, really...! Mid-table would do me.

Matt

Compared to the teams we've just played this season?!?

IMHO, if we keep hold of our current squad and pick up players of at least equal quality to create cover/competition across the park then a play-off position is not out of the question.

Problem comes is if we do have to let go of more of our squad, are we going to be able to get quality replacements as well as quality cover?

I think mid table or the play offs is realistic for next season. I dont think mounting a title charge would really do us any good. I would be glad to see us go back up dont get me wrong, but I dont see how we would be in any better position to compete if we went back up.

Like someone mentioned earlier, if and when we get the new ground up and running, then will be a time to push for promotion to the championship, until then I dont see that we would have a successful season. We can all argue that Colchester did ok this season with little resources compared to the bigger clubs, but the fact that they are going for 21st position next year speaks volumes of what they though of this this season - fluke/culture shock to big clubs. I wouldnt be surprised to see them back in with us next year.

i think we will get in the playoffs... it's all about a good start and hopefully this season we will have a squad of players that actually want to be here

Got to do something about the defence,or no chance. With decent defencive signings, poss playoffs, starting with the defence that played against Luton,we could struggle.

It's too early to say at the moment.

I think Freddy will be here next season and if we can sign a decent partner for him then we will be in the top-half and robably challenging for the play-offs, but to be honest ask me again in 2 and a half months time.

15th with 57 points and a goal difference of -3...

Actually, it's impossible to say, of course. New signings, departures, team psychology/confidence, injuries... there are too many randoms to make a prediction with any confidence. We could finish, top, bottom or anywhere in between.
