SUFC: The Future Next season

Agree with this. We don't have too much wriggle room, but some difficult decisions need to be made with those that are up to free up space to bring in improvements. Of those up, I think we have to let Bonne go. He does bring something to the side, but sadly need that space to improve. Waldron has pretty much gone anyway. Shame it didn't work out.
I'd like to keep Bridge personally but if we need spaces to recruit and improve the squad, then thats what has to be done. Ralph has to be offered a new deal imo.

There are a few I'd like to release as I think we could improve upon:
  • Gubbins
  • Walker
  • Hopper
  • Crowther
  • Coker - on the fence on this one
Its likely that most of these will be staying so just have to get the most out of them. None are terrible, but just can be improved on IMO.

This might get a bit of a backlash but I think if contracts didn't stop us, I'd ship out Colin and Hayes and start again in goal.

There is room for improvement in centre mid but we can get by with what we have if need to. With Parillion and Forson we have some real flair. Both Cav and Noor on their day are decent but we do seem to go AWOL in centre mid at times and can't put my finger on why.

Centre back needs improving, so with Goodliffe and Golding likely to return after loans we do need to bring in some bodies here. Option to keep either or both? Maybe if we get the option.

Others that are likely to free up space that I'd rather not see go are Gus, Parillion and Forson. I think these are going to be getting a fair bit of attention from elsewhere.

I wouldn't want to get rid of all of these, just areas I feel we could improve on, but without the cost of releasing, our options are limited and we clearly have a capable side that with a few tweaks can be pushing.

What ever happens, we have a proper summer to sort it all out for once. I'm sure we will be stronger next year without splugging big £££
Rather have Coker than Miley; think we need to move on from Miley.

Don't want Hopper here either, but I think we are stuck with him - which means we will likely not offer Bonne a contract, but he's a far better player than Hopper IMO.

Not one to dwell on the past so where do we go for next season?

What do we need to make us a force at the top of the league?
A lot of luck, a lot of money, a lot of things to go our way in key moments. Unfortunately, as York have showed, assembling a fantastic side doesn't necessarily mean you will get promoted. 96 points and they're off to Brackley with the rest of us.

Until it's 3 up, there will be a lot of good sides who deserve promotion who won't get it.

That said, we need a new centre half and a striker who is going to put in the work required of a striker in a Kevin Maher team but who can also find the back of the net 15 times a season. Not an easy one, or a cheap one.

Out of interest, what do you mean by "top class"? My idea of top class would be a PL player and I can't see any of them dropping down to NL however much we can afford to pay them! Do I assume you mean top class for the level we're at, which would be a player that could play at the top of League 2/ bottom of League 1?
If you read the next sentence you’ll get the answer.

Have we actually dominated any games this this season or won them comfortably.
Think we are far away from being in a Barnet position .
Does the current business model financially allow the type of signings needed, otherwise a much longer stint in this awful league is likely.
Maybe ebbsfleet twice, Boston, Eastleigh, Fylde and Halifax at home!? Solihull away was pretty convincing. But yeah we don’t often score say more than 2 at best. Playoffs have been impressive in the way we came from behind against both Rochdale and fgr. Hopefully we will be a force at home next year. Beat the teams we should be beating.

Find it strange that people are down on Oli Coker.

6 goals this season is nothing to be sniffed at. He's only 22 and he's a local lad who gives his all. I thought he had a positive impact yesterday when he came on and is someone who can only improve. We say we need goals and creativity in the middle and he can bring that. Not necessarily someone who should automatically be in the starting XI, but definitely a good option for the squad and who I expect could play at a higher level in the near future.

Agreed. I think he is a decent squad player.

I think the issue wasn't that we didn't control most games. It was that we had our foot on the throat but didn't finish them off. Certainly once Hopper arrived and we started to pick up more second balls in midfield due to defenders not being allowed to clear the ball properly, we controlled most games.

The games with Barnet and York were really the only time last season where I can say with absolute certainty that another team dominated the game.

I've no idea what the best approach is.
You might be right.
Players I've added as remove perhaps 2-3 can be squad players? Maybe bridge coker Kendall ?
If budget is tight is it not better to get the best players we can for the role Maher wants them to play? I'm not sure we have squad players luxury
My point is more that the "let go" list I don't think are going to make a difference to promotion.
Whether we do or not is a different matter!
I am merely an opinionated armchair fan!
I am, let's leave it there!
