Nope! As rigbsy said, it gives the youngsters/fringe players a chance to prove themselves & gives some vital competitive minutes to players who might not be up to 100% fitness. An increase in prize money for lower league clubs is no bad thing either.

Whilst I wholeheartedly disagree with any suggestion allowing the U-21's into the FL pyramid - the competition is a win-win for PL youngsters gaining experience / putting themselves in the shop window for a loan move as well as us for the points stated above.

Just my personal opinion.
Didn't realise that the Football League Trophy needed B teams in it for us to play our fringe players. I must have missed us playing our strongest 11 possible in every single trophy game before B teams were implemented. As for it giving PL players experience, so what? Why should we have to ruin the only competition that we have a chance of winning just so greedy PL clubs can develop players they have no intention of ever using.

Great opportunity for our young lads to prove themselves against PL pups, as Kyprianou did. Ferdinand eased himself in v Brighton an Fortune scored his first goal v Orient. Timlin forced his way back in by putting in a decent shift at Stevenage and then had a great day at Bury on the Saturday when he helped create 3 of our 4 goals.

The new rules should allow us to play more youngsters so I'm all for it as its a big step up from under 21 fixtures. Even if a lot of fans don't see it that way. Last time a group of six of us had one of the meal deals and a seat in the directors for about £20....Good night and cheaper than a curry.
It probably cost £20 because most people don't want to watch us play the reserves of a team that we were playing the first team of a few years ago and validate the concept of B teams in competitive lower league football.

Like I said, my personal opinion... doesn't mean everyone has to agree.

And I do the club some favours so they look after me.:winking:

The group stages worked well because all the clubs played more youngsters/fringe players. When L1&2 clubs are in a knock out then the manger has to play a stronger side because that's what the chairman wants.

Will not be boycotting any games. I support Blues and will do so no matter who we're playing against. If they had replaced the U23 sides with Conference sides, the competition would be much better.

Have the top 16 in the National League at the end of the season qualify for the next season's Checkatrade Trophy. Gives them an extra something to play for instead of just promotion/survival.

£3m to get B team in the cup. Begs the question, how much £ to get them into the league.

I won't be going. Boycott.

Will be boycotting the games against B teams again as it is an insult to Southend United to be forced to play someone's reserves.
Fortunately we can now play our reserves

I'm not fussed tbh. Gives players a chance against different opposition. Also allows us to get minutes for this coming back from injury.

If you make it all the way to the final it's worth over 500k. If that money got is the next freddy Eastwood it would be seen as well worth it.

It would be nice to make it free or £1 entry for season card holders in order to bolster the gates.

What a farce.

I really hope we didn't vote for it.

My other hope is that the final is MK v some U23 outfit in front of a handful at Wemberlee to truly make it the cup of shame.

I "get" the dislike that many have for this cup, AND it is very underwhelming for sure BUT it is also, in the early rounds about as useful as the Essex Senior Cup or the old reserve league.
It gives squad players a "competitive" game.
On a Tuesday it allows me a game to watch and a pint to partake in.
It is a shame it gets "policed" & such costs.

Finally after so many failures I would like to see us win the blooming thing!

If I've a spare evening , I will go. The more chance I get my Southend fix at Roots Hall the better. Also , any Cup that gives the opportunity for a day out at Wembley, for a lower league club ( just ask Coventry and Oxford) is good with me.

Is it perfect , nah! Is anything about football these days perfect, nah! Do I still love football like i did when I was 7, yeah, do I love watching Southend if they are at home, the same since i was 7, yeap. For me, the latter 2 points out weigh the first two, for mento joycott a game, I'd be cutting my nose to spite my face ...

I thoroughly enjoyed the three home games I went to. I got to sit in East stand with a great view of the pitch and match and paid a ridiculously cheap amount for my ticket. I agree with TTS's view of the competition but I'll still go again next season.

this post hits it on the head for me , cheap tickets normally under the floodlights , and watch the new players , ones with prospects and those who might not make it , blood these people in these games and prepare them for the future, can't see what's wrong with that ? If for you don't like seeing that , don't come
