Maybe that just shows how much he wants to play for us....?

Harsh of you lot to slate the guy who posted this, IMO this is the one rumour that could actually happen. Harris is a local lad who has always had SUFC close to his heart. He has not had the best time at Gillingham and might be looking to move away to kick start his career, and where better to do that than your hometown club? I can't believe half of you genuinely believe Chris Powell is coming back (he is playing regular games in the Prem for fecks sake) but then slate off a rumour like this which is far more realistic and does actually add up.

I accept that this is a rumour that could have substance, but is Harris any better than what we have?

The answer I fear is no, Harris has not been the same player since his illness problems, and though his record at Millwall was quite good he was by no means prolific, as his subsequent poor record at Forest & Gillingham show.

I would also agree that there is no chance of Chris Powell making a comeback at Roots Hall, as stated he has been pretty much a regular at Charlton this season so why should he move when he is in the first team. Another downside is wages with Powell, i would venture to suggest he will be on about 10k a week at Charlton so why drop two divisions for less than half the salary?

Watching last seasons Review DVD it made me realise how much Dudfield added to the team. Isn't Harris that sort of player who although not prolific might add to the team's chances in the box for Freddy or Wayne to put away?

I'm not saying i want him to play for us, i was just pointing out that this rumour could have some truth in it if Tilly wants him.

I agree with you, Harris is not the player he was, he is injury prone, has no pace and as others have stated, he has missed some absolute sitters this season. It would be a backward step to sign him but if he did come to Southend i would welcome him because i trust Tilsons judgement.

think i'd prefer Harris to Goater tbh.

Having no pace never did the likes of Teddy Sheringham any harm, as he had the brain to go with it.

I agree with you about Tilly's acumen in the transfer market i don't think he has bought a pup yet so if he goes for Harris albeit short term like Goater then of course we should support Tilsons judgement.

Also, if Harris did come in, wouldn't he be facing an uphill battle against those fans who think he's a bit of a donkey despite being local?

Plus the Gills are already letting another of their strikers (Hislop) go (probably to Livingston)

I was told that harris would definatley be joining us when he was at Forest from a source at millwall, but that got blocked. apparently harris does want to come here.
That same source has recently asked me about lawson because there was some news linking him to millwall which i've not heard anywhere else...the grapevine is busy this week

To be fair i am being a bit pre judgemental of Harris, i just feel he doesn't really fit Tilly's requirements of 'we won't sign anyone unless they are better than what we already have'.

Although if he did sign, it can only be a good thing to have Gray, Lawson, Goater and Harris all fighting for a place alongside Eastwood.

That sounds like Graeme Jones.
