Let's be realistic here. Pato played 9 minutes at the end of a friendly when we were 5-0 up. He was brought on to replace an unfit triallist after all the other subs had been taken off. Hardly looks like he is any further up sturrocks plans to me. Best for all parties if he leaves, even if we have to sub a part of his wages for the season

Any info on this Wilko Risser chap, where he's played before etc? He has a brilliant name.

EDIT: Just read the match report, sounds like he was really well involved in the match, plus he's a Namibia International! :hilarious: Sign him up!

Maybe he will play him in the league?

Clubs are more likely to come in for him if he is playing and match fit. Also he should be playing his guts out if he doesn't want to sink to non-league next year. Finally, unless his appearance bonus' are excessive surely better to be paying him and being involved rather than literally throwing his wage money down the toilet. We do need a striker and although it hasn't really worked for him up until now, maybe PS can get something out of him? Saints fans rated him...

See your point, but i really cant see a future for him, and it seems that oxford werent exactly bowled over! im not sure whether game time will put him in the shop window anymore then his agent must be doing, I would imagine his Cv has landed on many a clubs desk by now, and it appears he's allowed to go on trials. It all feels a bit ritchie f****, and the best we can hope for is all parties agree to cancel the contract, prob with a pay off. Shame for all involved really, and a shame that the squad seems to be pretty tight with just this issue remaining.

CP is absolutely adamant that Pato wont play for us again (in the league), so I tend to believe that more than anything as he obviously knows more than we do.

I think that Oxford had him on trial with a view to replacing Constable and their other striker whose name escapes me, as were expecting both to move. However, both moves fell through meaning Oxford no longer needed another striker.

It does strike me as odd not to play him though. We need an additional front man, short term at least with his preferred strikers in Corr and Blair injured. He also needs Pato off the wage bill. We might as well get our money's worth from a player that did quite well in this league for Stockport and us in the cup last year. He's a better option than Crawford or Asante. This way we cover the injuries up front without increasing the wage bill further, it then put's Pato in the shop window as teams are more likely to take a chance on a player that is involved in first team football than one rotting in the reserves. It also gives Pato the opportunity to impress PS or a new perspective manager. Surely it's win win? Covers our injuries, gives a player the opportunity to prove himself and hopefully helps PS sell him on and reduce the wage bill.

While he is on the books and not the worst player on the books, I find this statement worrying. If we needed a goal in the last 15 mins, I'd be happier seeing him come off the bench (with a point to prove) than Crawford or Sturrock.

Clearly it would be best for the club (and him) if he moved on. I suspect wages are a huge stumbling block and it will cost the club money, one way or the other, to move him on. Until that happens saying he won't play whatever the circumstances smacks of dogmatic pig-headedness !!

I think the truth is that we have 3 strikers at the club- Pato, Crawford and Asante- who Luggy has no faith in. Why else would he stick mohsni up top against Ipswich when he had 2 of those on the bench? And when Moshni came off, none of the strikers came on. How must they feel? Plus the fact he keeps going on about 1or 2 more strikers needed. Surely we cant afford this, we are getting into Tilly territory with the amount of strikers!

But he hasn't said that (I don't think) and I doubt that he will. If he doesn't get moved on then I'm sure that Paterson will be in contention just as he was last season.

I haven't heard Paul Sturrock say it directly, but certainly the impression Chris Phillips gave last night, after dropping Paul Sturrock off home, is that Pato will not feature for Southend's first team again. Also last year he said he is not in his plans and it would be best for him to move on.

Obviously these are historic and third party statements, but the signs are there that Pato won't get a chance whether he or the team warrants it or not.

I guess we'll have to see. I find it hard to believe that a successful and pragmatic manager like Paul Sturrock would stubbornly refuse to play any player who could improve his squad. Paterson had chances last year and was usually in and around the matchday squad until we were finally able to find someone to take him off us for a while. If he's still here at the start of the season I'd be surprised if the same wasn't again the case.

I do feel sorry for Pato, he has been given his chances i admit but I think he can still do a job for us at this level. I would rater see crawford go before him, on what I have seen of him and read about him I don't think he is cut out for this level, i seem to see the phrase "should have done better with that chance" near crawfords name. I hope this Risser is given a run out against Norwich, he sounds decent and the game would give a truer indication of his ability.

From German Div 4 to English Premier League? Dont think its fair to judge anyone on Thursday. Any result we get is a bonus, but its going to be a hard game for all concerned.

Yes, the OS ran with the excellent headline of 'Blackman On Trial' which raised a few chuckles in a casually racist kind of way.

Perhaps he can have an interview with the OS this time round and the headline will be;

''BLACKMAN HOPES FOR FAIR TRIAL''

Wilko Risser now on trial at Swindon - apparently his brother Oliver was signed recently by them and made club captain!? How random...
