My squad for Saturday

Bielzibubz

President
Flavs

Francis Sodje Clarke Hammel
(Barret)

JCR Gutts Mayer Gower
(Cole)

Freddy Paynter
(Harrold)

After Tuesday's reserve match I think Sodje is more than ready to start on Saturday. That for me is the strongest back line we could field.

Out wide I expect Cole to make an appearance probably 15 minutes from time to exploit some tired legs. JCR will run his socks off as always and IMO will get the full 90 minutes.

Up front is a little more difficult to call. If Paynter continues his rather lacklustre start to the season I can see Harrold being given 45 minutes to see just how well he can play alongside Freddy.

It would be a brave call of Tilly to start Sodje and drop Barrett. Long term I think its not a bad plan but I dont think Tilly who is fiercely loyal to players will drop him.

Cant see Harrold getting 45 mins either...Baring in mind he hasnt played any sort of football for us yet I think best he can hope for is a place on the bench.

Coley maybe will get some time as looked ok in the reserve game highlights I saw.

I wonder if Hooper is worth a start. His record in the reserves has been good and he seems to weigh in with a few goals here and there.......

I expect Sodje to be on the bench if he has proved his fitness, cant see him being put straight into the team I think Tilly will give the current back four a few games to try and gel as a unit.

Again Harrold might be on the bench, Paynter needs a bit of a run to try and settle.

Actually, on reflection the title of this thread should have been 'My Team for Saturday'.

Your possibly right about Sodje & Tilly's loyalty but I'd rather have see him start than Barret.

Mods, could you possibly change the title of this thread?

Re Sodje - I think he either has to start of be left out the sixteen. Sounds a bit stupid but I think Hunty can provide cover basically all across the back four.

If you have Sodje and Hunty on the bench ( Along with Collis who we clearly need) then we can only have 2 attacking players on the bench.

If it's predicted squad, I recko it'll be exactly the same as the one that started at Leicester barring, perhaps, Bradbury in for Paynter. I think Tilly wants to give Paynter a run in the team though so he would probably start.

As for the team I'd pick, I'd probably keep the defence as is I think. My ideal defence includes Sodje (in the middle with Cannavarro) so I would bring him in sooner or later but I think continuity may be key at this stage.

That said, we've got some very tricky games coming up after this one and it might be worth bringing in Sodje Saturday with one eye on those games in order for him to pick up match fitness. AB looks like the likeliest to go but it'd be a bold manager who drops someone that committed.

Midfield virtually pickls itself with Cole not having made any significant impact in the first team so far and, as I mentioned, I reckon it's between Paynter and Bradbury up front. Here I would agree with the idea of giving Paynter a run in the first team. He needs games to show what he can do.

I agree that Hunt is the only defender we need on the bench as he can cover all positions. THis would allow us to have Cole, Bradbury and Harrold/Hooper as attacking options.

Is Paynter fully fit yet?

I don't know how much pre-season he actually played, plus he then got injured.

Not that such excuses will stop people writing him off.

Look correct, but I would swap Sodje for Barrett. Sodje have to wait for his chance, he will get his chance agasint WBA as Tilson need someone to handle John Hartson!

Bit different.....Cheese was clearly over taken by Hammell and even Stevie Wonder could see he Hammell was a better option.

But to drop AB for Sodje when AB didnt do much wrong is his last game and Sodje hasnt played much isnt really Tilly IMHO.
