Moving away

That thought had crossed my mind too, It would also be a bit quicker than selling.........

Plus of course if you have given any thought as to where you wish to retire to, if it's back to Southend then the house is there. I am sure the costs of renting will be pretty much equal to what you will get on your house, so you shouldn't be out of pocket. Other than perhaps paying a fee down here to a letting agent.

A bloke I used to work with bought a pub in Nottinghamshire, but his wife didn't want to give up her job so she would commute each day from I think Newark. So the idea of commuting is not impossible, good luck in whatever you decide mate.

It is a tough one, but like people have said, it doesn't have to be a one-way ticket if you rent your place out. Also the 'regret' factor - I once heard Terry Venables say that it's better to regret something you have done rather than you something you didn't do. I know there can be extreme examples that can rubbish this, but it's struck me as generally good advice down the years...

ps on a personal note, though I don't see as many games as I like from out here in the 'wild West,' the ones I do I really enjoy (unless we play really badly) and look forward to as soon as I plan them...

Fred West?

I lived in Leicester for 3 years whilst at uni, it's got some good parts, and some rough parts... but all in all I really liked the city.

Agreed - I lived in Leicester for a couple of years while the Missus was at Uni there, and while it had its drawbacks, on the whole I enjoyed it. And as has been said, the countryside around there is very nice. Go for it.
