Move for Constantine?

The Port Vale Official Site reports that the swap deal which would have taken Leon C to Barnsley has fallen through.

What do you think the possibilities of a swap of Constantine for Paynter are like?

Both sides would get back a player that has done well for them in the past so potential win win.

I'm not convinced Constantine is a great player but on current form he may be a better option than Paynter is (not that I am anti-Paynter by any means in fact I don't believe he's had a fair chance to prove himself yet)

Personally I wouldn't want him back. Never rated him when he was here. I don't think Tilly did either which is why he was stuck on the wing whenever two of Bramble, Broughton and Dudfield were fit.

Did well for us in League Two and has scored a lot of goals at League One level, not sure whether he could make the step up. We'd never re-sign him so i don't really think its worth thinking about, plus as fred said Paynter shouldn't be given the boot, just given time.

you are joking Beefy you have a very short memory you seem to forget that wonderful season he had when he scored loads of goals.Come on I would swap him for Paynter and Harold (together)

Well he pretty much kept us up singlehandedly that season and has done well in League One. Personally I wouldn't mind if we did go for him whether he could cut in the Championship is of course another matter entirely.

He scored a lot of goals (and fair play to him). I'd hardly say he played "wonderfully" though. He was a very ordinary player who had a knack of scoring goals. That's obviously a good knack to have but as a footballer I don't think he stood out in a very ordinary Southend side.

I wish people would stop moaning about Leon C, he left due to the crap wage he was offered!!!

No he didn't, the move fell through as first post on this thread says.

Constantine

Also that's why Barnsley played Marc Richards as a sub last night. Leon back in Vale squad for Saturday.

Oh & warning, prior to opening the link, beware it's a scary picture of Connie on there, not what you need to see.........

ooops...

Interesting comment about training with the kids and playing Saturday depending on his frame of mind. Seems as if PV want him to move on and he has had a bit of a bottom lip about it being Barnsley

True, my Dad waz saying the other day that without his goals we would have been out of da league! i guess £700 for someone who kept us up is an insult.

Oh, and i think he is fit.

With regards to him keeping us in the league, my memory tells me that we were losing when he was scoring. I reckon that Dudfield made mroe of an impact in actually turning our season round.

I completely agree with Beefy and said this at the time of his departure. He scored goals but you were never sure when they would come because he so often looked so average. Tilly seemed to agree and thought he could do better. He promptly did.
